It's true, I've seen Grim change his stance on things just over the last few years here. He's a pretty open-minded, logical guy.

Even if you don't support her or McCain you must admit, she is quite a interesting person. I mean she hunts moose, and cruises around on snow mobiles. :)

Being Governor for a couple years is far better preparation than being in the Senate for 10 years. Both the Senate, and Congress have such bad approval ratings, yet they are the leading candidates, go figure. Those people don't do anything, but sit around and vote. Governor is the CLOSEST thing to being president.

I personally think it's a smart move. She's going to draw in the middle aged women regardless of party affiliation. I think people forget that the average voting citizen doesn't set their feet in the Democrat, and Republican cement.

I'll also be the first one to say it, she's not bad looking for a 44 year old.:D

I missed that, Homebiz, and I'd have to agree with Rob. Grim and I don't always agree on things, but I've found him to be open to ideas, and brought me to think on things more deeply as well.

She came in 2nd for the 1984 Miss Alaska

She was also a State basketball champ, as point guard. She was known as Sarah Baracuda for her scrappy play.

Sarah Palin's husband is an eskimo. So this is historic. This will be the first time in the history of the US that the VP is married to an eskimo.

I live in Anchorage, Alaska. My wife and I have lived in Alaska a combined total of 47 years. Governor Palin is wildly popular up here. In fact, she is the most popular governor (highest approval ratings) in all 50 states. And with good reason.

The "experience" issue is going to be a loser for the Obama campaign. Remember, Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin are running for the executive office, not for a legislative office. Let's compare executive office experience:

    • Obama: zero, but running for Chief Executive.
    • Palin: two terms as a city mayor, currently governor of Alaska — and doing it so well that, as noted above, she has the highest approval ratings for governors in the entire country. And unlike Obama, who is running for Chief Executive with zero executive experience, the experienced executive Gov. Palin is running for vice president.

I think it was an interesting choice. She is not who I would of chosen but on the whole a politically decent move.
Yes people can attack her on the inexperience record but I think what she has done is still better than Obama. She has actually had an executive position and has accomplished more in her position.

Next is the fact she is a woman. In all honesty woman make up one of the lamest voting blocs. A large percentage of American women suported Clinton just for the fact that she is a lady and they are all about women\'s rights. This pick will steal a good percentage of those woman over. Everybody goes on about how its time for change and I think this is the time. We have a black man running and a woman in for VP.
Not to mention she has a fairly decent record of \"changing\" politics.

By the way I was at the Dayton rally. I am majorly dissapointed with the entire event. It was more of a pep rally then a presidential event. Sort of off topic but thought I would share

Well, in fact, you have said two things here.

One is that women voted for her because she is a woman, irrespective of her positions. I can't agree. See my "Alan Keyes" analogy, because I think it applies.

The other is that they voted for her because of her stand on things a good many women find important. Palin's stances, from what I've seen, are definitively not compatible.

I also think the ticket is not off to a good start. It doesn't get any more crass an attempt to peel off women based on gender alone than this:

And, I believe, such a tack will strongly backfire. "Hey, Clinton women, granted, you're too stupid to care about, you know, issues, and all - so come on over to our side, because, well, I'm a woman." If anything, I think this will help drive Clinton's supporters strongly to Obama, if they haven't been before.

Many of the men and women that supported Clinton over Obama did so not because they were influenced by here plocies but because she was white and/or a woman. This is why I believe many of the people who voted fr Clinton will side with McCain and Palin.

Clinton supporters could side with McCain and sway states that are close to call.

"city" mayor? She was mayor for a town of 8,000 people. That's a stretch of the word "city" in my opinion.

Gov. of Alaska? Obama represented more people as a state senator in Illinois than Palin represents as Gov. I have nothing against Alaska but being Gov. of the state is not nearly as impressive as say... being Gov. of New York or California.

Furthermore she has only been Gov. for 18 months. 18 months as Gov. of Alaska. Easily the thinnest resume in the history of a major party ticket.

Governor Palin is currently under investigation by an independent investigator hired by the legislature to determine if she abused her power when firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan
On July 11, 2008, Palin fired Commissioner of Public Safety, Walt Monegan.[36] According to Monegan, he was fired over his reluctance to fire an Alaska State Trooper involved in a divorce and child custody battle with Palin's sister

and there is something about the Matanuska Maid Dairy Closure also.

Speaking as a person with the bias obama wool turban over their eyes. She has done more for her State and tried to help the lower 57 states than Obama has.

We would have to agree that her resume is impressive. She is not part of the problem in Washington as Bush's two boys McCain and obama have been.

As expected, an answer skirting around the executive experience issue. She is more qualified to be Chief Executive than Obama is, and she's only running for Vice President.

The people investigating admit that Palin and all of her staff are being very open and helpful with it as if they probably have nothing to hide. It does not seem as if this \"scandal\" is anything at all.

She is nothing like Bush from anything you mentioned.
