Is This Possible?

I was wondering if it was possible to exclude a certain page or directory from the SE while the page still passes Page Rank?

That is, it can't be reached from any search engine but when other sites link out to it, it can poss on this juice to the other parts of my site.

    Thanx in advance! :D

Nope, to exclude a page you'll need to noindex it. For a page to be assigned and be able to pass PR then serach engines ahve to have it in their index

Hmm I think that could work, how obvious! Thanks, I'll try it and see if it works.

    Hello,
For me no, if you add noindex tag you will not pass PR...

No because if you noindex a page, it won't be indexed at all, so Google won't even be able to tell what links are on the page, nofollow or not.

It is not possible due to noindex.

It is not possible due to noindex since that tells spiders that they should ignore that site.

I'm not sure why you'd want to do this really. However just post a bunch of links to it and the search engines will run and hide :D Seriously though it's just a matter of getting other pages to outrank it and then no one will ever find it anyway. The bottom line is that in order for the search engines to index the links they have to index the page. The only way to prevent this is to have your link partners no follow your link but then there's no point in having the links ;)

    Noindex means no index

But that does bring up a good question. Does the order of "noindex, follow" effect what happens?

    • noindex, follow
    • follow, noindex

noindex first, that prevents a search engine from indexing the page.

You can't add no index and still build a page rank on it.
