    Hi all,

I try to find out how much space (GB) youll need for a average videosite.
Whats the size of an .flv file from the original 100 mb AVI/MPG?

What can i do with 1TB space by a hoster?
    Is it more than enough???
Anyone have serious experience with it?

Thanks in advance for your reply ;)

Most probably you will need multiple server support incase your site gets bigger. Start with smaller spaces and upgrade if needed.

Yes i understand that, but how can i find out what the size of a 100mb avi/mpeg is?
Then i can multiply it with the total amount of my members and limit their uploads.

    Anyone answer?

I have asked about this. 30 second video is roughly 2-15 MBs, 1 terabyte of space is way too little.

In essence 1 terabyte will allow (if 30 second video is 8MBs) to let it play 125,000,000 times.

This may seem like a lot but thats just 1 video and just 30 seconds. If you have 500 2 min videos, they can each only play: 62,500 times.

I guess for early stages that is ok, but as you start hosting 1000s of videos, you will definitely need more space.

I think 5 GB Space & 500 GB bandwidth should work.

    you talk about shared then...
if you want to make a SERIOUS website you need to have fast loading and fast website.
    that means: dedicated server ;)

i doubt you offer unlimited webhosting with a dedicated server for $100 a year :D

I think 1 TB would do for the start.

I think 1TB space is really a good start. Apart from space you would require a good machine with sufficient memory and good bandwidth. Only having space will not be enough.
