I have recently noticed that at the end of page when you login you see IP of yours. Why has google added that ip thing. You are currently using 722 MB (11%) of your 7070 MB. Last account activity: 1 day ago at IP xxx.xx.xxx.xxx. Details has anyone noticed this earlier.
Probably so that you can see if anyone else has gained access to your email password and reading your email. This is what google have to say about it. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=gmail&answer=45938&hl=en-GB
I thought they've been tracking everything, from you searching record to your email record. See those ads beside our emails? Those are the result of "tracking" your emails contents.
Well I think it’s good for security reasons and to track whether there are any unauthorized access to your account. Anyway, I would prefer if we were given the options to turn it off.
What benefit It seems to be of To me it seems dangerous to all of us as if they are going to catch us.
What are you scared about? They simply know your IP, big deal. The benefit is that if you ever log in and the IP on the bottom isnt yours then you know someone else logged into your account, thats all.
Well I have heard that if someone knows your IP address he can get into your PC and I have no Firewall installed. Can they penetertate into mine.
You are broadcasting your IP every time you visit a web site, and that information is being recorded in the web site's logs. It's just that most web sites don't publish that information. The real risk to your unprotected computer is more likely to be worms and viruses. If you are running Windows and using Internet Explorer as your browser, it probably already is infected. See this article about how an out-of-the-box Windows XP machine can be infected within 20 minutes of being connected to the internet: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/19/infected_in20_minutes/ The good news is that if you are running Windows XP and installed Service Pack 2 (SP2) your firewall should be turned on by default. But you should double check that that is true, and stop using Internet Explorer, if you haven't already.
it's a great idea so that you can monitor your own security and you can tell if your account has been hacked or illigally accessed. Very helpful for those who share computers or access email in a public space
Well my point was why is Google tracking us throgh Gmail. I have three id's on gmail and if i log them to check e-mail Google will record all my IPS and one account goes will all of them go. I think this might be the game behind it. What do you have to say?
Every web site you visit is tracking your IP address. Every. Single. One. All Google is doing is sharing that tracking information with you. If you are concerned, use a proxy for your web surfing.
Google tracks IP from long time.. this is the time they are showing it to u as a security measure and there is nothing to get scared.. all out login time with IP is stored with google as an internet security measure.
Strange, I don't see that message, I see this "You are currently using 14 MB (0%) of your 7070 MB. Last account activity: 1½ hours ago on this computer. Details"
