How hard would this be?

Hi, I'm targeting two key words, 1,720,000 google pages.

Top site has, 52,000 yahoo backlinks.

How hard do you think it would be to rank top five?

any tips?

Getting the number one position might be difficult to start with, but there are nine other positions. How good are those nine sites? Is there a lot of competition for your keywords?

Depending on the topic, I would say you have a good chance if you do things right, and by that, I mean create high quality content around the two specific keywords, in addition to many pages targeting keyword phrases related to those two keywords. Generally, you're going to rank for keyword phrases before you get ranked for the keyword itself, so it's just a matter of continuing to build your site out and making it an authority on the topic.

Or you could run an adwords campaign...

Yahoo backlinks are not revelant when you are talking about ranking on Google.

When you at the 1.7m level, this is called moderate SEO. It will need very good On-Page SEO and ~200 SEOed backlinks with the exact anchor text needed for the keyword phrase.

Then throw in a small PPC campaign to get traffic on the page.

This should get you into the Top 10. After that, it is head to head competition with the other sites.

 

you've lost me? everyone searches bls on Yahoo? and search size has little to do with competitiveness and how difficult it will be to rank.

plus 200 exact anchors will no other variants will more likely get you 950'd or equivalent these days than rank.

 

Evrything is possible in 6 months,
just deppends on how much cash you can throw at it.
Judging for sig links it is gambling.
You need to analyse your competitors and realize you need
50%?? (who knows?) more decent links than the top one to overcome the "hilltop"

 

It is hard but not impossible. You can achieve it within some hard work and building very high quality back links. Just concentrate on quality don't run after quantity.
