Yes, writing articles and submitting them to directories will bring you a lot of hits (providing the articles are well written and interesting). If you don't like writing yourself, get someone else to do it. It's pretty easy once you get started. Visit www.ezinearticles.com and www.goarticles.com to read articles that are similar to what your site is about in order to get some ideas. Answering questions on Yahoo Answers and putting your site as the "resource site" is a good way to bring traffic as well, just as long as you don't outright spam.

If you have an stablished business then you should have no problems with quality score. I mean that you probably have "about us", "privacy policy", "contact" and all those essential pages that Adwords likes to see.

Firstly well done for surviving for so long just by using sigs. However I would imagine sigs would make up only a tiny percentage of your overall promotion strategies. I am however confused that you have been doing SEO for 2.5 years which is a lifetime on the net and not know all the other ways of promotion. Anyhoo why not make a list of your keywords then do a search on Google for sites relating to those keywords. These site should be where yuor potential customers hang out. Then either blog comment, advertise, join community and post, offer free articles in return for a bio/link back. Pay an SEO to promote your sites sorry couldn't resist it. Search the information packed DP threads.

You could also try social networking sites such as facebook. They can help drive relevant traffic to your site.
