Many webmasters, including me, want to improve their website loading speed to enhance their visitors' experience. Many of you, who are using a host which do not give you .htaccess to perform gzip compression on your data stream, can now have an effective solution for that.

In fact, recently I've stumbled upon a website script giving you the power to do such as thing. The script which does this great job is called PHP Speedy. I'm thought about sharing it with other fellow webmasters will help them. Know more about how to setup the script and downloading it at http://codefusionlab.co.cc/phpspeedy.html

I don't know if it works or not.

But rather than Codefusionlab giving the particulars about this, he chose to link to one of his pages which is copied almost verbatim from the script writers pages. Tsk, tsk.

If you want more info, go to the source of PHP Speedy at Aciddrop.com

Here is a fairly good review of PHP Speedy and using Yslow to speed up with emphasis on WordPress driven sites.

Another informative article on how to PHP Speedy.

From what I can read, this looks to be one of those essential tools for your site.

I also noticed the Yslow tool that everyone keeps talking about around here. It was being used for time tests (nice screenshots) with detailed info on the inner workings of your websites Http requests and the time it took to fill those requests.

mod_expires is a better alternative to speeding up a site for returning visitors gzip is very nice but puts extra strain on the server cpu usage.

Yep, but what do you do on blog hosts like wordpress/blogger etc?
They do not give you access to well....htaccess do they?

And there are some persons out there who use free webhost and many of they do not allow .htaccess...tha'ts why it's really cool for these sites...it provides them with an alternative....:)

    IMO. it won;t work,

Lets, take an example of website having image gallery.

And on a page there are more than 100 thumb images, how it can save time to load this images from server...

    This is impractical.

I'll have to try this for myself and see if it makes any difference at all to the loading speed of my websites before I write it off completely.

Not only is it impractical, it is just bad design. Anyone who would script a page to show 100 thumbnails is either lazy or does not have a clue to what they are doing.
