I just checked my sites via Google webmaster tools and found some strange on Googlebot activity. Most of the last visited from Googlebot are on August 14, 2008, even with my largest site which has most strong backlink and unique content updated regularly. This is weird because Googlebot usually come visited my sites almost everyday. Has anyone here noticed about this?
Google are just being very weird lately, and have gone completely nuts with certain things. Anything right now is considered irrelevant from my perspective until Google makes it's mind up. -pokey
Many of my sites have the same problem, August 9th last crawl date, for some sites and Aug 20 for another. Something seriously wrong.
Me too I have gone from 200+ daily visits from google to 6! It has been like that for 4 days now and I am starting to worry!
Yup, I agree! I also noticed some changes in my site position in the SERP, back links and crawling activity. I checked my site a couple of days ago and found that my site has no back links and haven't been cached but I know it has been. The following day I've seen that the back links changed and updated also its being cached! Very weird! But still the SERP position is the same.
There seems to be an algo update on the way. I observe this "strange behavior" since about 6 weeks, but not for all sites at a time.
guys I think I might have figured out the problem for all I'll get back to everyone once I have confirmation.
Waiting However, from my own observation, I thought that Google is updating their search results, meant another big update.
I figured out what was wrong. My wordpress blog was secrectly hacked for over a month and I didn't even know it. I was bleeding PR badly and only reason I'm still on 1st page of SERPS is because we have weekly link building. My main site is not a blog, only a sub-page is URL/blog, but that blog is very powerful about 1000 unique content posts, so that's why I lost at least 50% traffic. http://www.akamarketing.com/blog/11...f-your-google-cache-for-hidden-spa-links.html
Thanks for your heads up. I just checked and found no parasite penetrated into any of my sites. However, I just also found that Googlebot comes to normal behavior. I thought Google just finished some updation in their backend.

Google webmaster tools is not working with me anymore... It is not updating even though you have a fresh sitemap..
I see this message "Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Aug 20, 2008" And my site crawl rate is now normal instead of fast. Google automatically changed it.
