Developing A Plan For A "Funny Stories" Website

    Hello everyone,

I'm fairly new at the seo/ppc game, and I have what I think is a solid idea.

Without being TOO descriptive, I have a source who has recorded stories for me, and I will be writing them. These stories are basically about young guys growing up (drinking, sex at parties, some illegal stuff, etc).

I have 75 leads for stories, with 10 recorded so far. These stories honestly have me (and anyone they've been told to) on the floor in tears. They are HILARIOUS. Pure gold - Stuff that you would think of in teen movies (American Pie, etc)

What I'm going to do is make "like" a blog, where the blog posts are the stories. I think I'll post 2 stories a week at the start, and 1+ a week if it gets popular. I'll post one of the stories here in a couple days to show you guys how funny they really are. :D

My target market is 14-45 year old males, but females would also be interested. I'm thinking that the search engines wont be my best source of traffic (as it will be so hard to have specific keywords "funny blog" or "funny sex stories" probably wouldn't be a good option). Therefore I'm thinking that my best source of traffic will be the blogesphere. Am I too naive to think that people will write about the stories on their blogs, just because they are so funny?

I plan to add 1 illustration (cartoonish) to each story as well.

I will make money using adsense, affiliate programs, etc.

Is there anything else I'm missing here? I want to be sure to have a solid foundation before I start. My game plan is like this:

    1) Register domain, set up a site (wordpress or drupal)
    2) Post 2-3 starter stories, what the site is about, add the ads
    3) Promote it using comments, forums, writing to blogs and asking them to review, etc
    4) As it grows, keep up the backlinks and posting quality, unique content weekly.

Any thing else I should be thinking about here? I think realistically my goal here is to get bought out by a big site like college humour or something (that way I can keep posting the content, get automatic traffic, and make money as well)

Thanks for everyones help and opinions in advance!

Instead of a blog, open a story wiki. Let others also extend your story and create their own story. Use some Digg like voting and let others vote on the story.

You are correct search engines wouldn't be the main source of traffic for a site like this. You would want the site to go viral and promote it on social media sites.

I do like the voting idea, but the main focus of the site needs to be on these stories. I think as it grows I will take user contributed stories ( a couple a month) or something, but not initially.

In Canada you can operate a business under your own name, so as long as the adsense and affiliate information is under my own name, then it gets taxed as self-employment.

Idea 1: Learn proper English & grammar.

Ok, thank you for reconfirming my suspicions.

I will start writing the stories up and see what I can start with. Has anyone made money with sites in this sort of niche? I know there are a few competitors, but they seem to have stopped writing stories years ago, and are now riding their "reputation".

    3) Promote it using comments, forums, writing to blogs and asking them to review, etc - this will be the hardest part and you'll get frustrated pretty soon, just keep up with it.

Don't over post, don't under post, create a loyal readership more than any SEO thing. If the stories are great, they will return by RSS, SEO is not a good loyal visitor return rate, and you need it. Keep this in mind.

    Thanks Scorpiono,

I figure I will do the posting 2 a week for the first 10 weeks, and then 1 a week (on a certain day) for the next 40 weeks. They would be between 500-2500 word stories. Is this under posting in peoples opinions? Any ideas on how I could monetize this a bit better?
