I don't know why but lately as I read recent posts I've been noticing that the grammar and English is really bad! Anyone else noticed it?
it prolly has 2 do w/all de laziness that so many peeps r nfected with Seriously though. Imagine getting something like that on a resume that you are reviewing. I've seen several these come across my desk. I used to give the person the benefit of the doubt, thinking that maybe english was their second language. In most cases, the perpetrator was born and raised in the USA. So, a tip: If you *really* want a good job at an english speaking company, learn to write in english properly. If you can't, hire someone who can. You're only showing your ignorance when lapse into "pidgin typing" or "leet speak".
It has always been the case as far as I can see. This forum has members from all over the world, definitely some are not native English speakers.
It doesn't matter as long as you're getting they say. Communication skills are not a MUST if a non-native have excellent designing skills or something else. That's a different issue if you're looking for copywriters. In copywriting forum, you'll find better (almost accurate) posts in terms of grammar and written skills. (Feel free to hang around copywriting forum if you're tired of poor English in general chat or other forums sometime Feel at home .. kidding)
It's always been like this. Mostly because a large percentage of people here don't speak English as their first language, but also due to the large number of young people on these forums who havn't learned yet to type properly instead of text type or whatever it's called.
When someday you're traveling to a place where English is not the main language and all people there speak English very bad, then you should be glad because you already get use to it here in DP. Just think positive.
That's because half the member's on DP are from India/Pakistan/Outer Mongolia. To be honest as long as you can understand what they've written I don't have a problem. They are also improving their English this way, which is a good thing. I agree with the comment above me BTW. I live in a foreign country and don't speak the language 100% yet, so I understand that they are trying and they are doing their best. Build a bridge and get over it, Databloc.
lol yah but i did post to buy copywriters before (Not here but in some other popular service sites), and some of the bid proposals were unbelievable. So much so that I wanted to write back to them and correct their grammar and spelling mistakes so they can have better luck in the future, but I decided not to because I figured it would not be fair to future buyers. But when it comes to general forum chit chat it doesn't bug me at all to see horrid mistakes. I don't expect the whole world to speak English as a first language. Besides, I live in Toronto and its nothing different from going to a corner store or hitting a club or a bar. Multiculturalism is a wonderful thing.
I just feel that DP seems to be filled with foreigners (and I truly mean no offence to anyone), I would love to know the stats that visit this site... Hmmmmmm. You make it sound as if you are an old wise man (which you could be) when I am only a young person (I am not). I have travelled and don't believe that reading a badly written post is going to benefit me on understanding how people talk while in a foreign country... I do believe it will slowly run off on me..
No matter good or bad, as long as you can understand what they're trying to say, then it's Ok for both side...
I'm not a native English speaker and now that I no longer have to study English I tend to care less about grammar/spelling mistakes. :/
There's a lot if international users as well - that's why ! I'm not from US or UK or whatever - I'm from Latvia, and English is my third language .. Never laught about someones mistakes
It's usually like this on the internet. However, this site seems to attract people from all over the world -- if the person's first language isn't English, then I'm usually pretty accepting of the grammar. stupd ppl who spek englsh but typ lik dis tho rly is annoygn
What you said ? Anyway - I'm learning English every day, and .. I'm always trying to use some spellcheck if I'm not sure about something
It's probably related to the fact that so many people are used to texting on their mobile phones, so they take shortcuts in terms of language used, spelling, etc. Not sure what my excuse is though.
