    quotes from WIKI

Various U.S. diplomats and intelligence officials have asserted that Saddam was strongly linked with the CIA, and that U.S. intelligence, under President John F. Kennedy, helped Saddam's party seize power for the first time in 1963.

In the early 1970s, Saddam spearheaded Iraq's nationalization of the Western-owned Iraq Petroleum Company, which had long held a monopoly on the country's oil.

Long before Saddam, Iraq had been split along social, ethnic, religious, and economic fault lines: Sunni versus Shi'ite, Arab versus Kurd, tribal chief versus urban merchant, nomad versus peasant. (Humphreys, 78) Stable rule in a country rife with factionalism required both massive repression and the improvement of living standards. (Humphreys, 78)

At the center of this strategy was Iraq's oil. On June 1, 1972, Saddam oversaw the seizure of international oil interests, which, at the time, dominated the country's oil sector. A year later, world oil prices rose dramatically as a result of the 1973 energy crisis, and skyrocketing revenues enabled Saddam to expand his agenda.

Within just a few years, Iraq was providing social services that were unprecedented among Middle Eastern countries. Saddam established and controlled the "National Campaign for the Eradication of Illiteracy" and the campaign for "Compulsory Free Education in Iraq," and largely under his auspices, the government established universal free schooling up to the highest education levels; hundreds of thousands learned to read in the years following the initiation of the program. The government also supported families of soldiers, granted free hospitalization to everyone, and gave subsidies to farmers. Iraq created one of the most modernized public-health systems in the Middle East, earning Saddam an award from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).[19][20]

sniff sniff what do i smell? fake ass propaganda? not saying saddam was a nice guy...im just saying the US governments intentions were less than noble and that it was all about oil from the very beginning...remember folks if your country has resources the west thinks it belongs to them!

Are you saying that Obama would be better at fighting the Russians?

Obama is a much better combat fighter pilot

I just love the way Obama speaks for hours and says nothing. Hope, Change,Hope' Change

When did you start stating facts. Talk about "Pot calling the kettle black"

    world oil reserves:
-middle east 56% (iraq + new US target iran + US puppet kuwait + emirates)

-canada 14% and guess whos the top US petroleum supplier?

it beings with c and ends with anada...can you guess?...ill give you one more hint in this country over half the oil production is controlled by its big overly aggressive southern oil devouring neighbor...that could be PART of the reason :D why you have not yet found a good reason to support some separatists in canada and invade to "serve your country" and "Defend freedom"

oh and did you miss the part where saddam seized his own countries oil and got a UN award for steering it in to health and education? now this is the part that made the USA very very angry...it put the poor citizens of iraq under decades of sanctions and grief but now the oil is US controlled again...hooray...the children will have to pay for education and medicine now but at least the oil is liberated

    i smell an oil hog...

How come the Russians don't talk about fighting America, but the neocons in America do talk about fighting the Russians?

Actually, neocons love to fight. To be more precise they like others to fight their dirty fighsts/wars.
    That's all they know.

Here is you genius president. The one who you admire. Enjoy his wisdom, seems liek you have way too much in common:

I have only talked to a few Russians in the US and they talked about fighting the USA the same way you are stating they didn't. I guess it is who you poll in each country.
