Hi all, I was in my webmaster's tools today and I clicked on the sitelinks tab like I always do just for laughs. Lo and behold, it looks like Google generated sitelinks for my site. It shows me the links and says it did this on 8/21 (two days ago). Two questions: First, how long before I start seeing those sitelinks showing up during search results? Right now I google my domain name (thefrogandtheprincess.com) and I don't see any sitelinks. I guess the second question would be under what circumstances the sitelinks show up - is there a specific kind or type of search required? For example, if you search for "The Frog and the Princess" or if you search for "baby boutique", will the site links show up each time my site is listed in a search? Or only for certain keywords/phrases? Thanks in advance, this is all new to me.
I think you are referring to backlinks a.k.a. inbound links a.k.a. IBLs. You can find these in Google by using the "site:" operator in a search. Like, "site:mywebsite.com" for instance. Keep in mind that Google will not show you all the backlinks you really have...
Nope, I mean sitelinks, which is a list of links shown beneath certain search results. For example, google the phrase "DarkUFO" and you'll see one of my buddies sites - he's got about 8 sitelinks listed right beneath the entry for his website.
ye you need specific searches. only the searches where you are an authority there you will be able to see the sitellinks.
Cool, thanks. I thought it was something similar to that, such as when someone searches exactly for the name of your site.
Since I have been asked this a few times as well, I have written about sitelinks in my FAQ as well. But yes, search queries highly relevant to your domain, and quite possibly similar to your domain URL, have a good chance of showing SiteLinks if your domain is ranked #1.
