    relevant dofollow blogs will give u backlinks as well as traffic.

    What no-one has mentioned is the ageing factor. Unless you actually get a sitewide from a blog, the link can very quickly get buried as it becomes last month's news, whereas link positions in good quality directories tend to be more stable.

    Get blog posts at the end of the month. For example a 29th of August 2008 post will likely be on the top of the August archive :)
