well there have been rumors and talks for several years about a sort of league/tournament between European and NBA teams. Several clubs in Europe are investing heavily and bringing top players that could easily play for any NBA teams (Russian, Greek and Spanish clubs mainly). I've read this morning that the American team will be staying in 5 star hotel in Beijing and not in the olympic village like everybody else. Them being so spoiled just made me want them to lose even more.
There is no doubt in my mind that some European teams could compete with NBA teams. Just recently a pretty decent player by the name of Josh Childress left the NBA to play in a Euro league. He got signed to a 20 mill, 3 year deal, and basically tax free. I think it's the start of a new trend. They are probably the only athletes in the games that can stay in a 5 star hotel, and not even care about the price. I still want them to win, because they are representing my country, but I want a competitive tournament. Which I know we will see for sure.
i must admit that they look very very strong! i suppose the only team that can give them a fight right now is Spain, though i'm really starting to doubt it
I was really impressed with the Chinese team the other day. They held their own for about two quarters. China's team has a lot of potential, and they will become a solid competitor. One segment talked about the expansion of basketball there, and it is now the number one sport over taking soccer.
