Lancepost.com - Freelance Job Aggregator Website, please review

    Hi all,

I have started a new Freelance Job Aggregator site here:

    http://www.lancepost.com

It aggregates job feeds from several job bidding sites, and also allows visitors to subscribe to categories they're interested in. Usually people have to subscribe to each of these sites' feeds, and filter the post out manually. Now they can just use the subscription feature of my website to choose only the categories they want.

Please give me reviews based on your experience using it :)

    Thanks in advance.

    Gary

Hi Gary, congrats on launching your site. Really great concept!

Firstly I would suggest installing a new site theme. Freelancers like me are privy to the web and many of us are going to notice right away this is the default theme for Drupal. You've got a good domain and brand image potential. Customize a professional & attractive looking theme for it and the ptoentail for your webiste will grow ten fold.

    Hi Zoomer,

Thanks for your advice. I'm glad you like it. I'll wait for some other reviews to see if this concept is really well-founded, then I'll definitely go for a customized design.

    Gary.

Eh, i don't like it. I can't search specifically. Personally the layout is very narrow. colors/banner seem completely way off base aswell.

Don't get me wrong. the concept of the website is great!, it's just, it needs to be delivered in a better way. I don't know where these jobs posting even are! CA? NY? Japan? catagories can be in drop downs saving you tons of space... elaborate my friend!

    Hi,

I was experimenting a new theme. So it's kinda jumpy at the moment. I reverted to the default theme, which is flexible width.

You can search specifically. Please try a search, then an Advanced Search option will appear if your search doesn't suit your preference.

These jobs are aggregated from job bidding sites (scriptlance, getafreelancer, rentacoder etc.), so freelancers can be based anywhere.

I like your suggestion about categories dropdown, but somehow I think it's less obvious to visitors that way.

    Thanks for your opinions.

OK wow. great improvement I like that theme a whole lot more and it sems a bit more readable. can u change the background color perhaps? a bit more solid so that the white'ness of the page isn't too distracting?

    I love the expanded view..

The reason i mentioned to use categories is because, you will eventually run out of room, not only that! your wasting advertisement space by using all of it on text categories!

You can also perhaps expand it to add pages of how'to's and other great stuff! For example:

How to : build a bad ass resume tailored to " insert category here" /// Another option , add news! adding news sections or world related/ market related issues // economy issues // perhaps a stock ticker // stock information

you can go wild on this man!

Wow that's some really great idea! Thanks for that.

I'm gonna post a contest for the redesign of my website. I will keep it readable like this, but it should look more professional, with a professional logo :)

I'm also gonna try implementing a drop down list for the categories too :)

Hey Gary, that's a good plan. Maybe you can crowdsource a a site design & logo for Lancepost with a contest.

As a random idea for the site, as you grow in popularity you could eventually open the site up to submissions. So you have the feeds but employers can also manually enter a job submission using Lancepost. Which would also make it a viable revenue maker.

I've defiantly bookmarked this one! Looking forward to the progress.

Hi, thanks for your comment Zoomer.

That's what I have in mind, too. Maybe I'll expand it to be a job board of its own. Right now I'm concentrating on building links and traffic. Currently I'm holding two contests for both the design and logo. Please join if you want :)

Hi Everyone, the site has been revamped with a new theme. Check it out ;) No more default Drupal theme.

I'm just frustrated that the winner of the design contest for the site failed to deliver even though I paid him. Anyway, the new theme I'm using looks good!
