Webwork, which part of Mexico do you live in? What prompted you to move (and stay)?

You mean kind of like all those that voted Bush twice are banging their head against the wall? Look where the miserable failure has taken the country? It's no laughing matter.

The voters will be asking who was worst Obama, Bush or Carter.

I live in Mazatlan. I was originally just going to stay here on an extended vacation but my rent was $100 a month and everything is so cheap, what the heck... And now, I've got this really hot local girl I've been dating for the past 6 months so I'm pretty much stuck :D

Maybe my opinions on all of this are skewed because I am from Sacramento, CA and now living in a decent part of Mexico

Nothing like a hottie to make you change locations.

A bit of a myth, the notion that Obama is the "flip-flop" candidate and McCain is the model of consistency. It doesn't hold water. On offshore drilling, the Bush tax cuts, warrantless wiretapping, the privatization of social security, abortion, indefinite detention of terrorist suspects, the Iraq war, diplomatic overtures with "hostile" nations, lobby reform, many, many others - McCain has shown himself to be a "maverick" in name only.

Like Obama. Both have swung from their earlier positions to grab votes - Obama, to attempt to appeal to centrist and center-right coalitions, and McCain to stop the bleed of conservative Republicans, the "Base."

No candidate has impressed me as the savior both sides claim their candidate is. No band wagon for me. Obama does seem to be more of a swinger than McCain.

I don't see it, Homebiz - I only listed a smattering, truly. McCain has shifted like crazy - dozens - and it has all been done in the effort to congeal a conservative coalition around him; to be honest, on pure numbers, I'd be very surprised if McCain didn't beat Obama on the "flip-flop" race - the myth notwithstanding.

I'd agree on the savior thing. Never considered Obama a "savior," though I did feel he had a shot at pulling the country together in a time when we could use it. But Obama blew it, for me, for his actions over the last portion of this contest.

    How did he blow it?

I think the Obama wave will grow after the convention and Obama will win with ease.

There are a few things about Obama that bother me that I will not discuss in a forum. If it were not for those I would be on the bandwagon as well.

when I met Obama I was awestruck.

I am not sure Obama has the background to solve the problems with the US. Then again neither does McCain.

Bogart doesn't just spout crap that he can't back up.

And one of the reasons we have so many people in prison is because a lot of non-violent people are in there that shouldn't be.

True, but some of the same violence prevalent in Mexico is caused by US drug policies ;)

I doubt drug smuggling accounts for a large portion of those numbers, it probably just accounts for the more "spectacular" or shocking acts of violence.

But you're right that our drug policies suck.

No I don't think so. The vast majority of those numbers are inflated by cartels and drug related murders. Like I said before when I first moved here 2 different shootings happend on my street within the first 6 months, both men died, both men were cartel members. Just last month there was a cartel hit at the mall I went to, only hours before I was there. The only murders I've ever seen on the news have been cartel related, there's a new story every day.

One of my neighbors was working for cartel for a short time and showed me a couple of his automatic weapons he had stashed under his bed. It's very, very widespread.

Take a look at Columbia. That's all drug murders. I was even watching a video about a fashion designer in Columbia who sold bulletproof clothing in Columbia because the drug cartel shootings are so bad.

Much of the violence in Columbia is class related. Everyone who has money is a target for kidnappings, extortion, etc. The well off in Columbia are always at great risk and it is often totally unrelated to drugs.

Not a very scientific representation, but let's make a deal, we'll substract the same percentage per capita of murders for the drug smugglers of Mexico as we will for the drug dealers in the US that get their drugs from Mexico.

Good thing he has discrete neighbors.

Columbians, anecdotally speaking, are the most violent of all. Even the ones that are drug related are crazy-violent compared to other criminal groups.

Its quite interesting all these automatic weapons, kidnapping and cartels.
Most criminals of the Disco Dust nature I know wear nice suits and have had their teeth bleached white.
