    Hi guys,

I have an file host script on my shared host, not good. The old host only supported ftp. So i have to transfer all my files over to a dedicated host (which is now done). I have 6 ips at my new host.

What i want to do, is bring the domain names over from my old host and assign them new ips on my new dedicated server...but i dont how to. I have cpanel installed on the new server.

Is it just a case of getting the nameservers of my new host, goto my old host my replace the nameservers?

    Im a little lost

    Thanks :)

    1) Create Nameservers for your domain with the new ips.. Your domain registrar will provide this facility
    2) Change the nameservers of your domain to the new ones
    3) Set up the site on the dedicated server

    Done...

    Hey Yesterday4,

    Thanks for the help :)

Its only three steps, yet im finding it so hard! Can i say what im doing, maybe somebody can say where im going wrong?

    Ok, logged into whm

Main >> Server Configuration >> Basic cPanel/WHM Setup

    Host name is default?
    cl-t111-480cl.privatedns.com

    nameserver
    server_ip ns1.mydomain.com
    server_ip ns2.mydomain.com

clicked assign ip then add entry...but when i goto another menu and come back in here, it seems to have reset the names backto ns1.privatedns.com & ns2.privatedns.com...alhtough when i goto:

Main >> Networking Setup >> Nameserver IPs

They seem to be ok? Is that correct?

I tried changing the details on my old host with the new ones:

    Modify DNS Servers
    Create or Modify a Nameserver

It takes the details, but still goes to the website...I know it takes upto 48 hours to propagate across the servers...so I must be going wrong something

Sajidshabbir, turns out my nameservers were ok...but I had to contact my old host to setup the namesevers - there online form just didnt work! Weird! Now the site is offline and will take upto 48hrs to be changed over.

Thanks again to everybody for their suggestions and help!

    All the best

    Hey,
Thanks for the offer...I might need to do that haha!

Im slowly but surely getting there. Nameservers are done...i wanted to try and edit the htaccess file so that all links went to the index page...but it didnt work. The reason is that i need to install script (can do that), then import my sql database...which I have never done before. I know im gonna get problems there...so I might be posting back up soon :)

    Thanks again...
