I heard, and figure --- links from .edu sites carry HUGE importance However I just read on a blog that Matt Cutts said theyre not more important than a .com Does anyone have any proof of this one way or the other? THANKS!
I would suspect that Matt Cutts is the one who's right. A lot of people SAY that .edu backlinks are better, but I have yet to see anyone offer proof of that.
.edu sites are "authority" sites.... and I see all this buzz about them.... i'd expect they would be worth more --
Yes, it IS an authority site. So it will have that weight. But it probably won't have MORE weight than a .com authority site; especially one that's older and well established.
.edu links are more valuable not because their extension is .edu but because they might be authority sites.
I think .edu and .gov links are lots more valuable in my experience. Although things may change with Google, but it'll take awhile. Keep working ony our .edu links.
a link is worth what site is on it,not what TLD it has. a true education site with .edu,yeah it may be worth more. on the other hand,a directory with .edu is worth as much as an .info.
personally I don't think that the domain.edu gives is any more important. I do however think that the reason .edu links are more prized and appear higher up in serps is because by their nature they are usually linked to an educational establishment and as such the quality of the content is often much higher, because they are not targeting pages around advertising. I think that this is why the myth has prevailed
I donot think only the domains of .edu, .gov, etc. better than normal domains(such as .com, .net, etc.) I think the pagerank of the link page and the website is deciding the importance... Most of the gov, edu websites have more higher pagerank than normal websites. So the links of them are better.
If the .edu site is related to your content then it will have a positive impact on your site's pagetrust and rankings but if it's not relevant then I guess there is no use of that. Yahoo and MSN may think otherwise though! It's all about relevancy, be it .com .info or any other extension, if it is relevant that matters the most
.edu sites are considered authority sites in general. Having link from them would help, but again as Zee said relevancy is most important as of now.
In simplest terms: If http//www.blogs.schoolsname.edu/~tka88/category/post.html and PR = 0 Your link about baseball card auctions or whatever isn't going to be worth much. If http://www.harvard.edu is linking to a college/education website, suddenly you're an authority too. Each url has its own topic and relative weight / authority...and there doesn't seem to be any difference between .net / .com / .info / .biz etc...
There is no such thing as authority sites. It is correct that Matt Cutts denies that .edu links should have more value than others, but he would say that even if they had more value. I would like to know what peoples knowledge are build on? Other threads on DP or actual studies?
Matt Cuts is right, a pr 0 .edu domains, is as good as a pr 0 .com domain. But only in this case. When the .edu domain belongs to Harvard or Yale University, the situation is different. Problem is how to get and maintain a .edu link to your sites. There are certain ways but they require a tremendous effort.
I saw a video of Matt Cutts interview on this issue; on that video he actually said .edu and .gov have considered authority sites for different reasons. I don't have the link now; would have been nice to show you guys though.
What's your point? He has never stated that a link from an .edu page has more value than a link from a .com page.
As my understand, the extension actually will not providing more PR juice. And no one can ensure it is better, in this case, we can only accept that it is not better then other extension
.edu is authority in nature, however, if a blog comment(spam) on a student's personal blog hosted on an .edu site is what you call do-follow .edu link, then that won't have an effect on anything really, at least not positive.
