    I am not agree with 5. Swap Links is bad idea.

    But if you do not follow some basic rules for swapping links than all SEO tactic is bad.

    If you swap link with relevant sites and exact niche than it is beneficial to your site and SE also does not oppose for it.

    Google discourages links exchanging and has algorithms to detect it. Of course not all of them are detected, but I think is better to play by the rules.

    No offence that that's garbage.

    Matt Cutts has stated that reciprocal links are a natural part of any link profile. There are no risks associated with reciprocal linking. None.

    The only possible drawback is that you'll waste your time if you don't do it cleverly (3 way linking etc).

    Swapping links are a neutral thing, honestly its not bad but with a site which is not even close to your niche it passes almost no values to you and hence the confusion.
