I would like to hear all the worst criticism (along with tips to make it better of course!) on my portfolio: http://205.205.200.231/~h806209/ Many thanks! ps. I use Firefox for it so anyone who has IE 5, 6 or 7, I would like to hear you out as well.
Hi Greg, I'm impressed with your programming skills. Some people just have a knack - some guys go to school and can't do it. Couple of notes: Was there supposed to be audio? I saw your lips moving but didn't hear anything. In IE7 your man didn't show up. How about center it on the screen. I have a very wide monitor and the content was off to the left. Don't be bashful about selling your skills. You say you have taken classes and taught yourself the others. If you are going to look for work using your skills, be more positive and don't sell yourself as a learning student (unless you feel you are and still aren't ready to work with it). Your work examples were good. All and all, your doing great!
I'm seeing the same problem as the user above experienced with Safari only I'm using Firefox 3 on a Mac. I only see 3 colored boxes.
It didn't show up in IE7 at all or maybe it took time to load? Ok so instead of saying I learned or self tutored I should say that "I know" right? There's no limit to learning. I've been learning these things for the last 5 years and still haven't gotten anywhere (both programming and design) financially (sigh!!!).
I'm using firefox and the site was centered when I viewed it, I think the sitepal character is great. However, the site looks a bit plain, you're a designer who is trying to find work, I think your potential clients will expect your site to look a bit more professional. You should consider using a professional template.
That's true. I took away the position, left and top from style. <body style="background-color: #808000; display: block; text-align: center;" Code (markup): But I noticed that it's not centering on Firefox 2.0.
Warning: design nerd here: To be honest, and I might be touching on personal preferences here, I feel like your colors are rather harsh and too "matched". Did you use a colour scheme generator? Might I suggest darkening your text and titles, eliminating the (dark-)yellow borders around the content sections, making the dark green background the same color as the content section background and aligning your title ("Welcome to my portfolio!") to the left. ..jus' my 2cents. BTW, viewed in FireFox.
Yeah the color is the main thing that bothers me. Then the centering and the cross browser problems. I don't remember if I used a color scheme. I often looked at colormatch.dk but they keep going off line for improvements.
Hahaha! I like that comment. I need that because people look at my portfolio for hiring. No wonder I don't get any interviews!!!
I'm looking for a good combination. My theory is that the majority of the web page including the background must have a bright color. But the rest referring the highlighted parts like the logo and titles should be a dark color. What do you think?
Find a site you really like. Take a screen shot and steal their colour scheme. I don't consider that plagiarism if your design is 100% original. I usually end up changing one or two colours anyway.. It's just a good starting point.
Hey! For me the left menu doesnt work. Im using Opera. You have to make your website compatible atleast with Opera, Firefox and IE if you expect visitors to return to your site. And you need a better colour combination too.
