Windows XP Desktop and Windows XP Laptop... is it different?? HELP NEEDED!!

I have bought a Compaq 702 TU Laptop yesterday.

I didn't get any OS in that as I wanted. I have a XP Service Pack 2 which I bought 2 years ago. Thats totally genuine as I didn't even open the seal till yesterday.

Now, I installed that in my Laptop.

My Laptop is working perfectly... but, there is nothing like Battery Charge Status or Notifier.

I have charged my Laptop for 2 hours and the Orange light was up for the first 90 minutes and it turned green for next 30 minutes.

Now, When I am switching it on, its not at all responding. :(

So, I want to know whether there is a unique version of Windows XP for laptop or its the same for Desktop and Laptop.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

you might want to look at:

Control Panel -> Power Options -> Advanced

    then check:
Always show icon on the taskbar

    :)
