Myspace Backlink Question

A friend was nice enough to give me a backlink from her PR4 myspace page but I have yet to see it show up even though when I look in google the link shows up on the cached page view.

Are myspace links good for nothing but the occasional page viewer that clicks through?

 

A lot of myspace links (not all) aren't direct links.. Some go as msplinks.com/blahblah don't they?

 

alexme is right myspace links are dynamic links.

 

If they are using a redirect there is no SEO value, but there are some marketing value of course.

 

Is there any way to have a link that does pass value from myspace?

 

Not that I've heard of. Even in the applications, direct links don't work, so my guess is it's a myspace-wide thing.

 

Mind you, it didn't always used to be this way because I have seen proper links to one of my websites (probably just over a year ago) and I think it may still be valid (not sure).

 

Probably. The number of nofollow links is greatly increasing, for better or worse.

Lots of high profile friends. So you can imagine my frustration at this link having no SEO power in the least.

 

They could have PR10, it doesn't matter because the links from myspace are redirects.

 

Yep it has no SEO value as every outbound link from myspace is a redirect.

 

Yeah, most, if not all, of them do. With MySpace, the traffic you can generate is much more valuable than any "backlinks" you might get from there.

 

the social networking sites facebook, myspace do their best to keep their sites from PR leaking, its not good source of SEO profit, however it can be used for traffic and buzz
