    - Forum can be developed for all Internet Stuff, its a good subject
    - Charge members to become premium member and give them additional facilities after becoming premium member
    - Paid Advertisement can also earn you some money

From what I've read on here it's not easy to monetize a forum unless you make it subscription based and then you need a committed readership willing to pay for the access privileges.

It is hard to promote because of the competition . First, you must select a niche that you are interested in and give something unique to the forum members . For monetization use adsense it is enough , although the ctr is low in forums .

I would have thought to start off with you just need to get a lot of regular active members on your forum, then you can start to think about selling ad space and making 'vip only' sections, otherwise no one will pay for either.

Whatever you do, make sure that your forum is unique. Internet is crawling whit bussines forums already. So a good not so usual topic would be nice.

Making money is very hard on forums, specially positioning of your ads. Not to mention making money you have to pour time and money into actually getting visitors and active members.

    It isn't easy.

I know people who make a decent income with forums. However, they make the most of their money when they flip them. My mentor made over $700,000 flipping 3 forums. To sell these, you must go through a broker after your forum has been established for a while. You can always get people to help you keep the forum in control. There are many people willing to do that. It looks good on their resume ;-) Nothing is going to be easy. I just say... go for it. I can't wait until I increase my site flipping business to where I am flipping forums.

I have a forum and a blog....on the same theme.

If I were to start all over again, I would 100% make a blog and not forum.

Blogs seem to have a much better CTR (even when I don't consider repeat users on the forum).

Also, blogs are easier to maintain.

Blogs also perform better in SERPs as there is a lot of content on the home page, which is the strongest page for most sites.

If you don't have a strong reason for making a forum, I suggest you make a blog instead.

Depends on the topic of forum. For something like digitalpoint it can be very profitable as long as you use all types of programs, cpm, cpc and cpa

The real money in a forum is selling special memberships or promoting your own product. They are hard to start, because people don't like posting on empty forums where nobody replies.

But if they're a success, I'm sure they can be real money makers.
