So on the 13th I notice PayPal sent me an email saying something worth $117.43 USD had been purchased with my account. It was definitely not me. Thinking I had a virus we had Geek Squad come out to our house and run a full scan. They printed off a results page, but basically they had found a number of trojans and backdoors on the machine. We had to reformat. I still don't know how any of these got on the system. My only guess is that my little brother or any one of his friends tried to download something that was infected. So I tell PP it's an unauthorized purchase and after several e-mails they find no evidence and will not issue me a refund. Also the seller sent me 2 e-mails which gave no description or anything about what was purchased. I don't know if this was physical or virtual. Most likely it was a grab and run virtual purchase. Even after calling PayPal up all I got was the run-around. I'm waiting for this seller to get back to me right now but I can just see him saying "sorry the items were delivered we can't refund". Even though I have nothing! I feel like I just spent $100+ for 2 e-mails by someone with a 5th grade reading/writing level! What can I do now? I know that from now on I will never keep funds in PayPal. At least if someone takes money out of my Bank Account I can trust the bank to return my money without telling me to file a claim with the IC3 because we can't do anything for you!!! Any ideas? I can't believe this happened to me and I've been online since '96.
Well I can't do a chargeback because my debit card was not used just the funds I had already sitting in PP.
Hi Goran I just had a similar thing happen with 2 emails sent from ppl saying I bought 2 products . so I rang them right away and told them that I had not purchased a thing for over a month , tell them it was a unauthorised payment and get them to investigate it , if it is correct in what you say you should get your funds back , I did within 3 days , oh and change your password now paypals number +14029352050 hope it works out
Yea I called them up and told them all that stuff. I too havent purchased anything for several months. I believe they have insufficient evidence because whoever trojaned me was able to control my mouse and keyboard. At one point I saw my mouse moving on it's own. I think he might have done it from my computer while I slept... This sucks really bad!
I guess Paypal is also helpless resolving these kind of unauthorized access via virus attacks, since they are access from same IP
