Ruining the industry?

Hey Guys, just wanted to bring up a topic to hear some feedback.

So....when the entire gpt website concept came out, there were just a few amazing gpt websites that produced less fraud. Owning a GPT required good business skills, and overall creative ideas to establish and run a gpt website.

However, one day Gain Corporation (a.k.a. ShiftCode) had to enter this market, making a gpt script, allowing any 10 year old to have his own gpt. Thanks to them, we have a bunch of trashy gpt websites that are spamming everywhere and bring lots of fraud. But then again, we do have some respectable GPT's that are using shiftcode.

So, I never lost respect for shiftcode, simply because I saw this as their own creative method to make money.

But now, I heard some new, true news about Gain Corporation:
They will be starting a system where anybody could create and operate an Affiliate Network for less then 4,000 bucks. WTF is this?

So now, are we going to have another 900 affiliate networks begging us to join, without exclusives? Are we going to apply for these networks and get phone calls from 10 year olds that cant speak english, nor have any business talent?

This will lead to a lot of problems for affiliates networks who work hard to be the best. Competition is fun, but this will just be ridiculous! Competing with trash is just going to take away the culture and excitement of a true affiliate network.

Just throwing this out there. Give me some feedback!

Excuse my ignorance but what does GTP stand for? Get Paid To as in "get paid to click/post/whatever".

I think the big thing that's ruining the industry is the number of people who sign up who just aren't serious at all about what they're doing, specifically anyone who does sales and interacts directly with customers. It's an avalanche of bull that I have to wade through to make sales now with other affiliates who provide false information, no contact info, and being just rude and impolite in general.

I would have to agree with you on this one. I think available offers such as exclusives are important. However, you will always see the same offers on multiple networks. Even with the big guys. I think the tracking system is the most important aspect. I know for me I want a unique system that allows affiliates to run various reporting that allows me to maximize my revenue. Most of these affiliate tracking systems lack key datapoints that allow us to A/B test advertising channels in order to see what works and what doesn't in terms of advertising offers.

I do not believe that a new affiliate network script from Gain Corp will ruin the affiliate marketing industry. There is a lot more to successfully operating a network than the selection of a tracking script. Any one who does not do their research and has no clue what needs to be done to be successful will fail as a network, regardless of whether they licence software from Gain Corp, DirectTrack, Kowabunga, or build their own in-house code.

These "10 year olds" who drop the $4K for a licence will quickly find they are unable to do any direct deals with major merchants and will be forced to do no more than rebroker offers from other networks. This means their payouts will be lower than other networks and they will attract nothing more than beginner affiliates (who will quickly jump to other networks when they realize they can get paid more), or fraudulent affiliates (who've been booted by all the major networks already). Sadly, the fraudulent affiliates will significantly outnumber the beginner affiliates, meaning they'll be delivering nothing but garbage to the networks they're brokering from - leading to tons of reversed leads, pulled campaigns, and even in some cases non-payment for their leads.

Anyone who believes they can successfully start and operate a network without having a significant amount of experience in the industry as a publisher and/or a merchant is a fool. There really isn't a nicer way to put it than that.

The best way to find good GPT sites is to join the ones that are not Shiftcode. Check out www.treasuretrooper.com. Its not shiftcode, and its probly the oldest and most original GPT site. Its three years old.

There are good GPT sites that work hard for their members...

The networks are really cracking down on fraud so it's a tough industry but if you know what you are doing, it's not that bad.

I sure wish I was 10 when I started my GPT site with ShiftCode. Those 10 year olds that start a GPT site up are smart.

Also... it's not Shiftcode's fault, it's also the affiliate networks. They have to approve these so-called 10 year olds before they are given offers.

Most of ShiftCode running sites are not trash, and their particular owners are hard working, fraud is comited when a user does not want to use or subscribe to our anty fraud tools.

We made ShiftCode script because we got tired of requests from users of other scripts to write rutines for their existing scripts, due to the lack of support or bad writen PHP code. I will not mention them here.

And now lets get to the point here, regarding our Network Affiliate script. This last entreprise from our company become about the problems which we have with all other Network Scripts on the net, we got more trouble tickets regarding this networks in one day then we get in a month in regards to our ShiftCode script. We have to put resources in place to make this networks work with our scripts, and that is not because our scripts are bad, but because every one elses script is hard to use or lack certain features.

Our decision to make Network Affiliates script, is to solve this problem once and for ever, we have created an easy to use script at both ends of the equation, Publisers and Networks, full integration and full automation on both ends. This is to make every one's life easier and no need for large number of personel to suport either script.

And as you mention it, a 10 year old will be able to use it, as long as he has the 4000.00 in his pocket to aford one. We do not get to many users of our scripts to be 10 year olds, and as some one mention it before I will aplaud any 10 year old which has an entrepenor spirit.

If any one does not like our support we been giving I would apreciate if they tell us, we sell so many of this scripts because we are flexible, fast and responding to our users needs. All our products are created based on the user feed back, we did not made a pre caned piece of software and just force every one to use it as is, we work on improvements on non stop bases, and if some one has an idea we will implement it rapidly as long as it does not breack the law.

And BTW, our script sells for 3000.00 dollars, and we do know what we are doing. The post here from the originator of this tread sounds more like a complaing against competition from easy to startup networks. Seams to me that paying 10,000.00 for DT track and us comming up with a 3000.00 one has touch some nerves on the internet. I love this country, and its capitalism, is all about money.

We will continue to do what we do best, this industry has its way of separating the bad apples from the good ones.

    Best regards,
    Michael
    President of Gain Corp.

As Steven said, it’s not the fault of the company that writes the code or offers the product. The fault lies with those who are introducing sub-par networks or offers …not the back end that runs them. There will always be those that lack the experience to run a successful network or offer, as well as those who wish to scam publishers & users. For every ethical and well run network there will be 50 networks that will not be. Do your research…

The bottom line is “Publisher Beware” when choosing who to promote thru.

Well said, it does not matter how many anty fraud features we build into our scripts, there allways will be people looking to scamm others of their hard earned money, we had our share of unscrupulos people.

Lots of times members of those networks contacted us to complain about this sites, acording to the law is not much we can do, people do not understand that is a legal way to aproach this sort of things and take action.

Lots of new comers as publishers look at our script as a get rich quik scheme, they do not even have the hosting money for at least three months, and we do not charge an arm and a leg for that service. We are not into business of selling hope, no where on our web sites is ever mention that our products are to make money or get rich, we do not even advertise our products, is all based on word of mouth.

    Best regards,
    Michael

After looking into this much more, I have realized that starting this topic was a mistake. Gain Corporation is doing a great job providing immense innovation to the industry, so I should not be upset about this.

I publicly apologize to Gain Corporation.

    DP, please retract this topic.
