OK, so I've had an idea for a site where you can find freelancers. But what I want to know is, how do the websites make their money? Is it selling advertising space, taking a % of the money paid, or what? Thanks in advance Simon
Both... the website actually make money from comission earn from the project & also when your site is famous, the advertisement income wil roll in !
So, say the cost for the buyer is $5, I should take commission off that? Who should pay, buyer or freelancer?? Thanks in advance
Companies like Guru.com and Odesk do this already. You ought to look at their business models, see how you think it could be better, and move from there.
Yeah, I am aware of other freelance sites, but I've thought of an idea for a different one, what I'm asking is how I make money with the site
Advertising space is good, but to get to that point you already need to have a constant flow of UVs/stats in general. I plan to have advertising space, but I wont get a decent amount from this for a while.
If you have a really interesting site and you have huge TRAFFIC, advertisers will pay for your space.
I know that... What I was asking is how freelance sites make their money. Also, does anyone know of any good, cheap scripts for freelance sites?
of the project fee of both the webmaster and freelancer but there are variations and some only earn money on ads. The freelancing market is quite hard to get into so your Freelancing site must be very specialized or in a local country language that is not exploited yet if you want to make it I think... Did a quick search on google and www*ilance*com seems like a good script. /Rob
Most freelancing sites make money in a few ways. Freelancers may pay a one-time or monthly fee become members. There are often membership tiers - a low priced tier with fewer features and higher-priced features with more access to site features. Sellers may have to pay a project listing fee on some sites. Then there are usually project fees - a percentage of a project total that is paid when the project is complete and the freelancer is being paid.
I own needfreelance.com.. It's god damn hard to market such sites because of getafreelancer, elance etc.
Thanks for the advice guys. Elias, my idea is a bit different from the other freelance sites, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to market it easier and appeal to a few more people.
yeah a domain with freelance will be hard to market since getfreelancer has built such a strong brand
Yes, but as I said two posts up, I have an idea that would make my site a bit different to the sites such as getafreelancer and the similar sites
My suggestion, start by offering your service free (making minimal ad dollars) until you build a solid user base or gain popularity. Then charge annual memberships and/or take a percentage of projects.
