Today while surfing on SEDO i saw bhutan.com was placed on auction for 160,000 USD Thought to share it here as well Checkout the screenshot below
The price is not reasonable because bhutan name is not famous. e.g: Digitalf5 had a question above. I think that this domain is under $100,000. If macau.com domain name was sold for $550,000, it is reasonable because macau is very famous. I bet that you know what is macau.
Bhutan may not be famous in western countries.. but asians know it well.. Its a small country still ruled by king. A beautiful land situated in Himalayas..
I guess $ 100,000 must be still too high for bhutan.com but on the other hand there is search result of 74,100,000 for macau and 76,300,000 for bhutan in google lets try to sum it up...
You can put whatever price you want on a domain name but it doesn't mean somebody is going to pay for it. The word "bhutan" gets a monthly search volume of about 2,400. I don't think 2,400 visitors a month is worth $160,000. I would estimate the "realistic" value of that domain is about $1,000.
I am from Asia but I personally don't know what is Bhuttan. The seller should contact to Bhutan government local directly, not through the Sedo.com. They have a lot of money for the domain.
For a country domain the price is ok, but the buyer will have to keep it for a long time to make profit. However it'll be profitable. I don't think he'll be able to market that domain in a place like SEDO.
Wikipedia says its one of the smallest economies in the world and there are only 672,425 people, many of them rural so this would be a difficult domain to monetize. Id say the name is worth $5K - $10K because it has tourism potential. This part was cool though... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhutan
If they want to sell it to the government they should hire a web designer and come up with an interesting website. Even if it costs them $10,000 to come up with the site, it will be worth it if the Bhuttan government buys it for $100,000. But legally, the Bhuttan government may be able to take the domain name away from this person. Kinda like how WalMart could legally take away the domain WalMart.com if you beat them to it.
