Maybe writing and submitting articles takes a lot more time, but I don't think it is a waste of time. There are few tips in submitting articles. Try to make different versions of your articles and submit them to good quality article directories. Create different resource boxes and live links so that there will be variations of anchor text pointing to your site. And most importantly, create a very informative article. When people would love it, they will publish it on their own site. This can serve as an addition backlink to your article as well as to your main website.

I don't think it is a waste of time - if nothing else it's a great brand building tool and makes others aware of your area of expertise. It would be more beneficial though to choose just the better page ranked article distribution sites rather than using as many as possible. Think quality not quantity! If you really want to use them all, mix and match so you use half for one article and then the other half for the next article you write.

1. It depends on your definition of waste of time. If I can't generate a couple of thousand dollars per month then yes it is a waste of time for me but for some a couple of hundred is considered a success.

2. My recommendation on articles submissions is to use this tactic to get backlinks for SEO purposes. You will get very little traffic (again subjective) from them most of the time and the traffic you do get will convert lower than average. There is actually a case study from one of the DP members who tried this here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=739772 He failed miserably but I give them kudos for publishing the details.

i read some where that : Article submission is a waste of time, IF DONE THE WRONG WAY! One of my link building initiatives is article submission and i consider it as one of the most effective for driving traffic, conversions and inbound links.

Whatever you do if you submit your articles to directories, just don't forget to use mine. we love reading the articles and most of the time I twitter and bookmark the submissions for the authors.

I think you can make a test, browse an article directory, find an article, go to the author site, check back link of his site to see whether it has link back from the article directory or not. just test it out ;-)

 

So each article must be unique then for the links to qualify an fo the content to not be deemed as duplicate content?

 

Might be the waste of time if you're submitting the same article to many article sites with same author by lines. So if you're submitting the same article mind it to change the by lines..

If your are writing articles to generate back links. Here are some points to remember.

Links that are no perminent have no value to you, your site or for Page Rank. A link that is live for 3 months and then goes away or is moved (archived) is of no value. All articles are archived.

Most archives are linked by a nofollow link. Therefore even if the page is in the archive for 1 year, Google does not index it and therefore won't assign PR the the archived page.

And the last is that all articles are sorted by date, and the top 25 are displayed. Therefore you will be on page 2, then page 3 and so on. Notice that the page url that the link is on keeps changing. No PR.

 

I use an article submission company and have been pretty happy with it. I would definitely think it was a waste of time to submit one by one to 100's of directories, but these guys do it for me.

I don't bother with the rest. They are small time and hard to get as much traffic as in ezine articles.

Make sure your articles not too long and not too short.

If you don't mind writting your own stuff then you would have no problems

You can always hire someone to write for you. Could pay 5 bucks per 1 good article.
