Want to buy a new computer, $2,000 budget.Need advice.

Hi, right now I am using acer aspire 4520G laptop.Here is the spec

Amd turion 64x2 mobile technology TL-56 (1.8GHz, 2x512 KB cache)
256 MB Nvidia Geforece 8400M G Turbocache
512 MB DDR2
120 GB HDD
DVD Super Multi DL
802.11b/g WLAN
Bluetooth 2.0+EDR

I have finally able to save up money and I wish to buy a new computer, I was thinking of buying a desktop rather than a laptop.I have $2,000 budget.Right now, my laptop is working fine, little problem I face is I get eye pain using this since I use alot and when I open many browsers together its kinda slow, I think I need more ram for this, I have only 512 MB DDR2.From researching I learn about the new technology DDR3 which is much better than DDR2 and also more expensive, it's faster and use lesser power.I need advice on what to look for when I buy and also what would be the right one for me.

I work on my computer 10-12 hours a day.I want it to be super fast, what's the maximum ram are there in the market ? And also which brand would you suggest and also whether to buy a brand name computer or let the local computer shop join the computer parts themselves, wouldn't I get better technologies for cheaper ?

I think if you only need this PC for work, then you shouldn't buy that 256 MB Nvidia Geforece 8400M G Turbocache.You can safe the money to buy RAM. My PC's RAM is 8 Gb and it's fast you can't imagine.
You will find no trouble when you're using high RAM.

 

That's his stats for the laptop he is using currently, not the other way round.

My advice would be stick to XP for your OS as its much faster than Vista.
Also avoid local system builders. They will be much more expensive than big brands like Dell. I know this because I have done the comparisons many time before.
I would presonally never spend any more than $1,000 on a machine unless there was some massively compelling reason to do so..

8 GB of RAM ?

 

If you want to do alot of multitasking then you need an Intel Core2 Quad Processor and lots of Ram above 4GB.

 

Build it yourself. I personally made a Core2Quad (4 x 2.4 Ghz), 4GB Corsair DDR 2 Ram, 250GB Sata and all the standard stuff (DVD+RW, etc.) for £400 ($800). $2000 would get you a huge specification. That was just the tower, if you want the monitor and things you'll have to add that on top.

Those specs you posted are terrible.

 

I would get a MAC. If you have to get a PC I would get something like a Dell that can be downgraded to XP from Vista before you get it.

 

2grand is plenty of money
I got an hp for 800$ and then added more ram and a nice widewcreen monitor and don't listen to these kiddies saying downgrade from vista..lmao

If you are buying Windows XP or Vista and it's 32 bit there is no point in getting more than 4GB of ram as the OS won't recognise it (XP will only recognise up to 3.5GB). Hope that helps a bit, if you need more RAM buy a 64-bit OS and a 64-bit processor. I build computers daily, if you need any more help - feel free to PM me.

 

Are you using xp or vista ?

 

XP only holds 3.5GB of RAM, you need a Vista 64 bit version to support 8gb.

4GB is definitely your limit Vista 64-bit support 32-bit applications, the only one of its' kind I think

 

I'm using XP because I use some old programs that can't be recognized bu Vista.

 

You should get a dell computer, I have been very happy with the quality of dell computers.
