Is there any better page ranking if you website has the extension of .com, .net, .us. Is there one extension better than the other or does it all fall under seo. Dan
ccTLDs technically might rank better under different localized versions of Google... but they are all the same in the end with the right optimization.
.com = company .net = network The ( .com ) is the most recognize domain name. As for a branding a company image, most will stick with ( .com ) Most people are use to ( .com) when every they here a website address, with ( .net ) coming in as second. For SEO it makes no difference, like you said it's an extension.
On the surface there's no difference. A better SEOed .net should be a .com any day of the week. People know and are used to .com, it was the first and it will always be the widely regarded default internet search extension. If you've got the choice, get a .com. When people have forgotten or aren't sure of your internet address they're much more likely to type in .com than .net.
Not true at all, .net has had problems getting indexed as fast as a .com on all the 3 major search engines. There are also another bunch of basic major factors that punish a .net, .org, .biz or country domains such as: ca, us, it, sp, fr, co.uk ect Also there is "where are you hosted" factor that will punish a .net, while a .com can be hosted at the north pole and still will get listed well.
They are interchangeable to search engines. But .com is more memorable for humans so I would always go with that.
.com is the most popular. I sometimes find myself entering something like php.com instead of php.net......so yeah, .com is much better in my opinion.
.com is more popular, especially with novice users. When they think of the internet they think www and .com
I wouldn't touch a .net domain name with a stick. I guarantee that if you own a .net domain name and promote it, the person owning the .com version of that name will get more traffic because of you. Even though you promote your domain as .net, people will automatically think of it as a .com and will enter the .com version in their browser.
Google themselves can answer that for you. Send them an e-mail. They will tell you that it doesn't make any difference. It never has, and it never will. I love how noobs pass along such bad info. simply because they hear it from another noob, and that noob hears it from yet another noob. How is this possible when just about all if not all of the traffic comes in from clicking on links and ads? I do advertising outside the net also, and I have an FM extension, and I do just fine with it.
If you are dealing with the online world, your traffic may be coming from clicks. But, if you are promoting in the offline world, such as by using publicity and doing interviews with the media, doing radio or TV commercials, newspaper ads, etc. you are not depending on clicks. You are depending on people remembering your web address. Far too many people think that the only way to do business is on the Internet. Smart people, successful people, wealthy people use both online and offline marketing. I've been in business for over 30 years. Extremely successful offline. Then when business also moved online, I incorporated that. If you have a .net domain name and are promoting it offline and I own the .com version of that name, I'll thank you for the free, additional business.
Thanks for the info so far it looks if you are trying to do offline buisness that .com is remembered better, and I can understand this. If online buisness then it seems that either way is ok just work the seo part. I have purchased both .net and .com versions of what i am shooting for. Looks like I am on the right track for now. Thanks again to all. Dan
I would prefer .com domains because i have global business so for that i need the commercial site domain..
There is a lot of myths about extensions a lot of people want you to think that anything but a .com is not going to rank. False.. Yes the first couple of pages of google are mostly .com but a lot that is age, usually .com domains have been up and running much longer then the others. I think a lot of myths come from domain name investors people have invested thousands in .com names hoping the will be worth millions in a few years. Lol, not likey to happen. And with the new changes coming up though ICAN and the thousands of new extensions that are going to come out .com names will be worth even less. Personally I like .com names better but is harder to get a good one. I would rather have wwwbuyjewelry.net then wwwonline-buyjewelry-today-half-off.com
Domain extention in some degree has an impact on search engine positions, I think .com will be the best choice! However, it is not a very important ranking factor!
