I downloaded 2.6.1 beta, hoping to get a jump on it, but alas...I still have a message to upgrade. It would be so much better if there was a time table that you could depend on, like every 3 months, and then just release little code patches here and there.
Hmmm have to download it. Thanks for letting us know. Is it a beta release or an official one by the way?
At one time they did offer a list of the files that were updated so you didn't have to do a complete upgrade. I remember one update that only required about 5 files if you had already installed the previous release Now that the final release of 2.6.1 is out there, it's time to do some upgrades. 2.6.2 will probably be out in about 30 to 60 days. At least the core group of developers does stay on top of the WordPress issues, unlike the osCommerce develpment group.
Gotta laugh at the rocket scientist who red-repped me with this comment: Considering that 90% of the posts at DP are pure drivel, it's curious that someone would single out a post on a WordPress release as "Pointless"...
Lol thats weird@red rep thanks for replying. Was on my phone earlier so it was quite a hassle to again type wordpress and check lol.
I upgraded a few blogs to 2.6.1 and found that a lot of my plugins are now causing errors and problems. It took me a bit to figure out why I was getting errors and blank pages (like when you submit or edit a post). After I started selectively disabling my plugins I found out where the problem was and had to deactivate several of them. I suppose that is always the risk you take, plugins may not be compatable with a WP upgrade. However on some of my other blogs I will just stay with 2.6 for awhile If anyone plans on upgrading their WP blog I would recommend the automatic upgrade plugin at http://techie-buzz.com/wordpress-plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade-12-release.html I have used it numerous times with great results. You can upgrade your blog right from your admin panel with step by step directions and click throughs.
I have that installed but when I tried to use it to upgrade from 2.5x to 2.6 it kept failing. Mind you, I think the plugin has been upgraded since then.
Wow even I got me a red reputation for saying its weird that you got a red reputation? Lol... Anyway I still haven't upgraded to 2.6.1. Seeing everyone having plugin issues makes me worried. Still gotta update though... *sighs* I am still an old skooler when it comes to upgrade....
Compensation rep sent. Honestly, there are more morons posting at DP than mosquitoes in an average Canadian back yard.

The Automatic Upgrade Plugin is a snap when it works. But on some of the sites I upgraded for people it kept failing at putting the site into maintenance mode. After changing file permissions on all files to 777 it worked but by the time you change file permissions, do the automatic upgrade, and then change all file permissions back... well I can do it quicker manually. It would be great to know exactly what files or directories need write permissions instead of the shotgun approach. The plugins author has acknowledged the issue and hopefully will fix it in a future release.
I just tried the latest release of that plugin and it still won't get past the maintenance mode stage. The thing is, the upgrades don't require maintenance mode. If the plugin author would simply offer a "skip this stage" option, it might work fine.
That is because drivel is a highly addictive drug, and you are denying him his fix. Sheesh, and you call yourself a psychologist!
Well the one click plug in upgrader wasnt working well, it got updated by its author today, well see how it goes. so far so good tho i Like it.
