can we hav background images for adsense ad ... for example we can do it without changing ad code but is this allowed to do ... one website is selling such background and according to them google is allowing this
I would say it's ok but google may have differing opinions. Best way is to contact them directly and listen to what google has to say. It's better than guessing around.
According to adsense, you cannot use borders or images near ads that attract user attention, So I guess it is not allowed.
it is not allowed because you are trying to show to your visitors with those kind of background that these links are important and Google does not like that.
It is not allowed (images that draw attention to the ads), but it's always best to get an ok or nay directly from adsense. Setup a "test" page with the layout and write adsense explaining that it is on a test page not visible to the public. They should get back to you within 48 hours. That way if they say "ok" and it later becomes an issue, you'll have the email from them.

Yep.. and they also say on there site... Then they go on to say... And if you have a look at the samples on there site, you will see that they are nothing like the ones the OP was asking about. the background samples on that site are so slight that it is hard to tell there is a background image there at all.. one thing about that site I did notice was that they themselves don't have any Adsense ads running.
