Hard to Contact Programmers

I have encountered many programmers in the past week that just take your deposit and never contact you again. A few of them are even on this forum. How do I handle that kind of people? I really need a project completed and they have wasted fucking 4 months of my time already. The site was planned to be launched in June and it's fucking august already. Why are programmers like this? How can you solve this kind of problem?

    Oninuva,

I'm sorry to hear that. Plenty of programmers are only focused on the quick hit of cash and do not pride themselves on actually providing work. Depending on how you payed them, you can file complaints via Paypal. I'd also encourage you to leave them negative feedback on any other route you find them (forums, freelance boards, etc). This would at least spread the word and, most likely, negate some future transactions.

I'm a programmer/developer myself and understand how online integrity is difficult. Here are a few things I provide for clients and REQUIRE if I hire someone to work with me:

    1) US Phone Number
    2) 2 email addresses
    3) Usage of escrow or only paying percentages of the project for payment options (never use Western Union or a route that can't be traced)
    4) Depending on the project size, usually 2+ referrals that I can verify

Those are a few steps you can take in the future. If you're interested, I can definitely take a look at your project and offer my services, and I won't take payment until the project is completed and you're satisfied. I want to show you that there are people who work online that are still honest.

Happy to provide phone numbers and referrals from actual US companies as well :)

I hope that helps answer some of your questions, Have a great day!

PM me for a Phone number to call

Most provide work, but very sloppy work, but having said that, most buyers don't want to spend any money on anything. Whatever people tell you and whatever you have in your brain; programming is *difficult* and *hard* work. It is not simple nor will it ever be simple. Meaning that if you take the $100 bid on a project that has average bids of $10000, you'll get complete crap work. But still most people pick the cheapest or almost the cheapest.

Anyway, more on-topic; always work via Escrow constructions; those are much more viable than trust or something.

Quicky about Odesk; yes you pay for 'work' but that says nothing about what gets delivered. If they are 'busy' with 'work' in that utility (although for a completely different client which you don't know as you see a guy coding) then you can actually get crap in the end and still have to pay for the made hours, but I agree it is better than just via a forum.

hell that sucks. I'm trying to launch a site, and frick it s agood thing I'm the programmer.

I think you need to get down and dirty with a programmer and say: OK, this is what I want and I want it finished, if you want to work for me fine--do your job and work hard, if your going to quite half way through don't even bother.

The thing is, theres so many developers it's sometimes hard to find a good one.

If you do find a good programmer who isn't lazy and will work hard, even if the job is hard, then he's worth the weight in gold.

His claimed "partner" contacted me through a PM and claimed that the programmer got sick and is in the hospital. I don't buy that but he said he will be back in 1-2 days. I'll wait a day and if he doesn't have anything I'll reveal his name.

If you hire a dedicated programmer from reputed company especially those provide 24x7 support, contacting them will be easier.

But that'll be expensive and everyone here thinkings programmers should cost almost nothing; they hire the cheapest one :) But yes, you are right.

Well, I hire programmers that fit my budget and has a good portfolio but they still run away with the money. I mean the budget is reasonable too.

My advice is, since had similar problems, long time ago to use rentacoder, they take care about everything, you pot job, choose wining bid, after that rentacoder team will monitor, and if there is any problem, they have great arbitration service. I ordered a lot of jobs for various stuffs on RC and using them for more than 3-4 years, realy great service, take a look and you'll see wha I am talking about...

I agree; they are good, but still programmers can get away with a lot. I mean; there is no *real* QA, but maybe that is not needed. They DO solve the problem of the OP.

If you want to let me know the job you need and budget I'll let you know if I can help. Depending on what it is can probably finish the work before payment.

    Thanks
