Let me explain my understanding about Google PR. Google PR is related to "no of backlinks" a website has. If Google PR is high, website may rank top in Google search. I had a blogger site, I started 1 year back had Google PR 0 for around 5 months. But I had good Google traffic for the site. But now the PR of the same site is 1, but I havent seen even a small increase of traffic change due to PR change. Even if I do a Google search for top listed sites I havent notice higher PR sites listed on top. So what is the real importance of PR if it cant increase traffic. Yes, related to as in a pages PR is dependant on the PR of the pages that link to it. Um, not quite, high PR doesn't translate into rankings. That's not really surprising, PR doesn't equate to rankings, thematic linking is more closely related to rankings. Again, not surprising, they've probably got better links. And that doesn't mean high PR ones. Not a lot, I don't even check the PR of my client sites much anymore. Generally when getting related links I use it as an indiaction of the value of a link, and it's also good for getting larger sites more deeply indexed and spidered. -Apart from that not much.
My Dear brothers and Sisters PR has nothing to do with SERP ranking. Ranking depends on traffic and backlinks but PR can be easily available if proper internal linking is done and so far it is very very very helpful if you want to do link exchange. Content + internal linking will definitely give you PR this is my long research. ( nothing more to be needed but your other pages should be promoted highly)
PR is a Public Relation program by Google. It gave them a difference. Then they told the industry not to SEO for PR, which everyone did (dah). There has been a great deal of BS writing on this topic by the experts. But, my site has been a PR4, PR5, PR6 and PR3. All depending on what tactic I am using and Google likes or dislikes. My SERP position stayed the same, no matter what the PR was. Don't focus on PR, backlinks and such. Verify that you have a home page link on every page within you site. Then create content via different topics. This will bring the repeat traffic that you want. As for the orginal PR0, this was due to the newness of the site. The current PR1 could be any number of reasons. Verify your internal navigation and internal back link structure. That's what it sounds like.

Now a days... PR is just useless... It doesn't have any effect on Search Engine Rankings.. I'm daily seeing so many new sites or sites with less pagerank are at top of the rankings. But having a respectable PR is better than nothing.
The comments from so many people helpled me understanding the value of PR more better, I dont have question on PR's value but to see that green bar going bigger will give you a great feeling inside,right?
Page rank has some importance because it indicates that highly ranked and trusted website links to yours.
