How Would You Like to Learn HTML?

I am starting a website teaching HTML and CSS specifically tailored to the users desire. How would you optimally like to learn HTML and CSS?

I have come up with a few ways.

    1. Video (The problem with this is the video would be very long)
    2. Text with Pictures
    3. Text with Pictures and Video Highlights

Any ideas would be of help.

I would split the lessons up into small chunk size videos, then accompany the videos with text, The vids could be uploaded to a video sharing site such as youtube then embedded into your site to save on bandwidth.

You also need a way for users to be able to expirement and try it out themselves, like w3schools.com

What I was thinking is creating a member area that has their submissions. From there I might make some articles and then attach them to relevant users. I was thinking of tagging the customers requests in the database. That would allow for relevant articles later.

Guthix121, could you explain more about the experimentation W3Schools has?

    Video tutorials for coding websites?
No copy and paste code? no long pages of explanations etc?

To be honest, it's not about the medium, it's about the teaching methodology I think.
It's a very competitive market tho, good luck, I'm out of ideas to be honest.

I prefer video tutorials but text with pictures would also be good.

Videos really help me to understand what is being learned, usually with how the person explains it.

I struggle with html/css, I've tried reading but to this day I haven't seen a site that gets into actually coding a design, sure they teach you how to make a form, add div tags and such, but I'd really like to see something that shows u the process of building a website from slicing, to putting it together with xhtml/css.. I'd prefer video, but pics and short text would be great, no one likes to read much, if it could somehow be to the point with not much reading involved I think anyone wanting to learn coding will def head to your site.. Anyway just my input.

    I second your opinion.

It would be great if there were tutorials starting from the PSD levels and going on to a full fledged website.

Basically, they have editors where it actually shows you an example of a rendered HTML code, and you can edit it and expirement. Example:

    http://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_basic

Tutorial should include text and images. Videos are a bit difficult to access sometimes. If the images in the video are hazy then it is of no use. As suggested do start from the basic level and then to advanced level. The text should be in step by step process and should be explained in a clear and simple style. Detailing of the steps is also necessary for HTML and CSS.

No No No, there are loads of tutorials and all that milarky.

The best way is to have a online feature where you have to build the code correctly to pass that stage.

Thus you must get the correct code then it will run fine and thus move to the next stage getting harder and harder, thats what the HTML learning market need.

    Rep+ if helped.

Text with Pictures and Video Highlights would be the best option.

honestly i would give all options, since people learn differently, i think text and pics with video highlights would be the best option. i remember when i was starting out, sometimes text and pics wasn't enough

I know most people feel text and images are not enough, but this would be 100% customized to what they want to learn. That means you aren't learning the routine lists, tables, forms, etc. It would be building what you are looking for from the ground up. I guess I should allow the option of videos.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

As long as it is easy to learn and not getting confused, any tutorial is welcome. they should incude levels e.g. basics and advanced. Those who know the basics need not start from the beginning. They can go to advance tutorials. How about the suggestion.

Personally I find straight up text and lessons to be easiest.

Show your example, show code, explain how its done and why you do certain things like clear floats. etc.,

But thats how I like to learn.
