Hey guys. I'm currently looking for 3d software. I was wondering if adobe had any products for sale? I'm not looking to make anything complex, just extruding logo's and making them 3d etc. If anyone knows the best software for the job please post
What you want is google's sketchup, it's free and easy to use. The pro version is good value. Some people like the open source blender, but I personally find it very unintuitive and buggy.
Actually, if you are not looking to do anything huge or get involved with 3D design intensely, Blender is a free open source 3D software www.blender.org I own both Maya unlimited 2008 & Lightwave 9.. Blenders UI & features are very similar to both will tons of options. For a free software, it's definitely worth the download. If you want to go professional then get Maya for characters or lightwave for objects. I say this because Maya's more geared for doing characters & lightwave is more geared for objects / buildings / landscapes. Maya is more of a design studio tool while lightwave is more for the Independent designer. There's really no easy way to do 3D designs with a basic software unless you want the end result to look cheap & sloppy. So while Blender may seem complex, it's worth the time to learn.
So it's made 1 movie. How many have lightwave/maya etc made.....? It's like gimp fanboys arguing how gimp is as good as photoshop (it's not). There's no doubting it has technical capability, but I (along with many 3d people) don't rate its interface or reliability. I can see it might make more sense to Lightwave users. I'd rather use a good 3d program and pay a hefty price but get paid client work done on time, than struggle and crash and lose work with a free product. It's all relative to how much you value your time. I've found blender to be a false economy.
Hey guys, I was talking to a web designer friend and he suggested learning the art of 'fake' 3d with photoshop. It works perfectly for logos so I'll stick with that. Though when It comes to more complex 3d models that need to be created I'll definitely look into what you guys suggested. Thanks all.
