I completed the registration and I have heard nothing, this was 6 weeks ago, if DMOZ is after editors, surely they should in touch? Unless this is a typical way of how unprofessional they are?
Umm, we're all volunteers and amateurs so thanks for the compliment . If you'd like a status report on your application, please visit RZ and ask politely with the information required by Forum Guidelines - READ BEFORE POSTING.
Ya know, I once told a would be editor the same thing and was told that I was wrong because you posted before me and did not give the same reply... http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=616968 I wonder if Anonymously & nebuchadrezzar still think I'm wrong Just because they are volunteers does not mean they can not be professional. Just think if the candy stripers at the hospital were rude and inconsiderate... ^ I am not referring to you however, you generally are very nice and actually look into things.
Did DMOZ say they will or will not be contacting applicants regarding whether their applications are successful or not? If yes, then that isn't very nice, but if no, basically what they are telling you is submit and forget. If you are chosen they will reply you, if not just move on with life. I don't see the importance of this to warrant a thread.
DMOZ generally does contact would be editors (or acceptance and/or rejection) , and if I am not mistaken, they say that in the application process. As RZ is not truly public knowledge, and according to their disclaimers at the bottom of their pages & according to many editors that post here, asking there is just as good as asking here....and will remain that way until there is an official place for editors to speak with the public (outside of the mostly one way blog). Personally I'd have asked had I not asked at RZ instead...
Since it's been more than 14 days since you've applied to be an editor, you can check your status by posting a message to Becoming an Editor forum. Be sure to read the Forum Guidelines first!
I was always puzzled about people who volunteer for something and then they do more damage then good but they refuse to leave and are usually backed by similar persons and end up forming their little interests group, such things can be often found at work but people get paid there so it in their interest to avoid doing too much work but I don't get it what can someone get out from being wiki admin or forum mod??? Especially if he/she isn't using real name which would be too risky since someone might decided to visit them at home. Only possible answer besides power junkie would be to hurt and make other people miserable and since physical torture can get you in jail that only leaves physiological pain... how long before people start suing admins and mods for being cruel to them or did that already happen in US? Should us true volunteers get organized into syndicate which will protect our rights?
Dues would likely be hard to calculate if we Unionized Though, such a thing could possibly help, then again, Unions are NOT what they used to be and have been corrupted as much as the corporations they help to regulate. I'm not sure, but I do know that the moderators, or at least the administration of a site can be held accountable for libel (and that has happened here in the US).
