When my son's XBOX 360 broke down over a year ago, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that it would turn into such a positive event. Yes he had the dreaded "RROD" or Red Ring of Death - lol. I had no idea that it was called that at the time by the way.

Of course at the time there was NO WAY that I was going to dish out another $300 (or whatever it was at the time) for another 360. So of course I turned to Google for answers. Using Google I came to realize that it was a quickly rising problem. And like many people at the time - I tried the "towel trick". Which consisted of wrapping your xbox in a large towel, and letting it over-heat. It actually worked for about a day or two, and then made our XBOX into a useless piece of toast.

So needless to say - I ended up dishing out for another XBOX 360 - DANGIT!

And guess what??? YES - Right after 1 year of having it - RROD - AGAIN! - And this was even before Microsoft started handing out their extended warranties! This time I went back to Google, and did research on the actual problem. And after finding out the true cause, did more research on coming up with some possible real solutions. The research paid off! I fixed my son's 360 - and we were both happy campers!

Having already been a successful affiliate on Clickbank at the time, I knew that I had a potential product on my hands. And I knew that it could be big if the problem grew any bigger.

Well here we are 8,000 copies later - and so far I have not had a downturn month (knock on wood). This problem must be huge for Microsoft.

Anyways - all of that to say - keep truckin along. You never know when you'll stumble across a solution that will turn into gold. :)

Well done, is there anything you have learnt as a publisher you would like to share?
what percentage of the sales were from affiliates?

Thank you - well at the start, I was making most of my sales myself. Now over 80% comes from affiliates. And one thing I've learned is to make things as easy as possible for your affiliates. For example - if I made a landing page that was getting good results - I'd put it on my affiliate page for my affiliates to make easy money.

Seems like that it's a huge problem ;)

I may consider promoting this stuff, because I'm a gamer, and I think it sells pretty well :)

    Congratz on your achievement.

Venrooy your product kicks ass... the best thing that you've done is that you included a video along with the guide.

    Wow. What a story!
... the coolest thing is that you found a hungry market from your own life experience!

    Congrats on 8000 sales ;)

    Alex

    And so?
Tens of thousands of people still own an older version which is still to get the RROD in the near future... ;)

Yea but there are still a ton of people who already own the XBOX that has these known problems, just because the new xbox is coming out doesn't mean the demand will drop, personally i would much rather pay $30 some odd bucks to repair my existing Xbox than go out and buy an entirely brand new one..

Lol I when did you release your product? I can't believe this. I fix this on the side as a paid hobby and advertise my services on craigslist and kijiji and charge $60 per rrod fix amongst other issues they face like dead lasers, stuck trays, e74's and modding. I would even buy broken ones off ebay but only in full bundles, and then turn around and sell them after I fixed them. Was making some pretty good money too.

I found all the information I could ever need in free guides, videos, and forums. So I can't believe people are actually paying for a guide.

What amazes me even more is that the 360 has a 3 year warranty on RROD but I guess people are just too stupid to know that. I cant even count how many 360s I got that still had their warranty sticker intact, I would peel them off with a blow dryer and then use them on units that were unfixable and sent them to microsoft.

Actually they've been sellin xbox 360s since 2007 that have already addressed the RROD problem. However, they've sold so many before with the problem already in place, that the repair guide is still going strong. It's true that this market will not last forever, but right now it's still on a climbing trend - and easy to make money with.

Thanks! Yes the videos did seem to be a good selling point. When my competitors broke onto the scene (which they always do when you have a product that sells) I decided to add videos to help entice the sale, and keep me at number 1 in the ranking. Of course - now they all have videos too -

I released this product about a year and a half ago. And yes you can find many of the fixes for free if you look around on the Internet enough. Just as you can find just about anything for free if you look hard enough. - However - many people will pay for the convenience of not having to search. And XBOX players are notorious for not having much patience. They want it now!

I too considered making some extra money fixing these on the side - but it seemed to labor intensive. I'm concentrating on setting up products and businesses that can be fully - or mostly automated.

I sold a copy within my first 20 hops back when you first came out, then PPC got really heavy and I didn't want to bid so high so I dumped it. Good job though!

That's true - I don't even like to fight over the ppc anymore. But you can still make good sales by finding cranky xboxers in forums, and by answering tech questions for people in places like fixya.com - or yahoo answers.

Also - here's another decent tip - for under $20 you can set up a classified auction on ebay that will run for 30 days. If you set up your seo (search words) on the auction page just right, you can end up getting some decent Google traffic.
