How do background check websites get their info?

Do all these background check websites get their info by running some special script? I know they are more detailed than a regular internet search, but I also know they are not as in depth as a private investigator could go.

Take netdetective.com for example. They have a large database of records. The question is, how did they and others like them get those large databases?

Is their a script I can buy or something to start my own site?

There's probably some companies that run big databases that will let you subscribe to their service. I think plugging into data like that is usually expensive. The actual code/script that does the work is probably fairly simple.

I ran a dating website that had this type of functionality - we connected to a third party who supplied the service and then they returned the info.

Can't for the life of me remember the third parties name - they were exactly what you are looking for tho! My boss found them at an internet dating conference. Wish I could be more help!

All records are public and you can view them from your local cityhall.

Those websites just collected all those public records and stored them in databases.

There are many websites that you can register with to view such records.

    Peace,

Searched for months? What keywords are you using? I found several companies in about 5 minutes. Acxiom, Merlin, Melissa, and many more. If you are interested in purchasing the data, it is going to cost you $$$ (some charge per record).

Those are very expensive vendors! Plus, you have to have al kind of documentation, and even some on site inspection before some of them will give you access. I used Qdata as a private investigator, but it cost me about $50 for a basic search. Up to $250 for a detailed search.

There would be no way to make a profit using those guys, plus I dont think they will just give access to their databases. They are very strict, especially Merlin.
