I have a domain with the following extensions: .net, .org, .info, .me and i really want to buy the .com version of the domain. It hasn't got any meaning in english and the current owner requested $500 for that domain. Now, he's not using it at all so... is there any way i could get this domain cheaper? I understood that if i Trademark my domains and send an email to his register he can't renew the domain. is it true? or... how could i make a backorder?
I am not a lawyer but I believe the above is called reverse-hijacking and will not work. It will also cost you over $500 and take about a year to trademark - with no resulting rights to claim the domain. It's cheaper & easier just to pay him the $500. A backorder would only give you an opportunity to bid on the name if the current owner doesn't renew.
you basically want to steal his domain and have decided what is and isn't use. Good job. Pay the $500 or quit bitching.
Don't want to beat a dead horse... but ya, I'd definitely would just pay the $500. Obviously, we don't know the specifics as to your reason/purpose for the domains, but if you have majority of the extensions... do you really need the .com? As well, a little lesson in domain business 101: If you are closing in on what I call a 'domain-name monopoly', don't expect to get the rest of the domains for cheap... it's like any business in life. If you owned some oil field, and Exxon came up to you and said we want to buy it from you... you'd obviously would want to make the most money out of the purchase. So, if you really want/need the .com ...$500 is worth every penny.
Agreed. Just pay the $500. Any legal fees would cost more money and more hassle and there is no guarantee that you will win.
The best way to get the domain i to pay what he wants. An alternative is to wait for the domain to expire and backorder it, but that's only if he is dropping the domain.
Agreed. If all those extensions are taken I'm surprised he quoted you ONLY $500. Either a noob or a really nice person. $500 is a good deal to secure a brand you want.
Just negotiate it with him. He probably knows you want it but lowball and hope he counters. Worst case scenario, pay the $500 and be done with it.
or they find this thread (youd be amazed what ive found after someone makes an inquiry if you look) and decide never to sell it.
Don't be cheap. If you really want to own the .com, $500 is an extremely cheap price that the owner has asked for this name!
reverse-hijacking does not really work well, so dont bother with the trademark thing. But if u dont want to pay the $500 then ask for a price reduction...talk to the owner...negotiate.
Haha, that crossed my mind as well I actually just talked to my firends who do dn selling, and they said if you got almost all of the extensions, just pick the .com for any price. However, we have to take into consideration for your purpose of the domains... for if you don't make anything out of the dn's, then they really aren't worth the $. Market them effectively and you could see $xxxx per dn easily. Let us know how the situation turn out.
Pay $500 instead of going with the reverse-hijacking method. Would cost you a lot less and would be the fastest method.
