    Hi,

I submitted my websites, 1st Class Websites, to the DMOZ directory months ago, and it still isn't appearing there.

I don't believe I have been contacted saying that my link is unacceptable.

    What could be the problem?

    Joel

But shouldn't they at least tell me that my site is not acceptable, and what the problem is with it? I think it was sometime last May the I submitted it.

Yeah, they should, but no they won't.

The norm is to submit ONCE and then forget about it.

If you dwell on it, you'll just be wasting your own time because the editors do not care about you or your site. They claim to be serving the end user, but that is laughable at best, as if that were truly the case they would care enough to at least look at submissions, or give a nudge to the off beat submitters to help them get their sites listed.

A two or three year wait is not all that un-normal. You've done all you can do, now just focus on other directories that do care enough to let you know if you made it or not.

DMOZ is rather slow, i have been waiting for over 6 months, with no update .. i guess patience would do good :(

not really happy with the pace though .. i wish they have more folks and faster approval rate !

    Thx

    Join them :D

They treat their editor applications with a lot more respect then their site submissions. You can maybe get your own sites listed, and toss in a few extras to help fill in your category. Once you get it going pretty good, you can then ask to edit other categories that you have listable sites for and add them ;)

Just be open and honest about your affiliations.

DMOZ is a failed directory and Google hasn't been giving it any attention for years - your submission may not even get looked at - or the editor could be keeping out the competition. Either way, simply submit and move on.

Actually, Google uses DMOZ data on a regular basis and has done so in the past month or so. ;)

Depending on the time of year and the category I could see DMOZ taking months to get accepted into. As others said, submit once and move on. If you start doing multiple submissions you surely won't get accepted!

It would help to know which directory you submitted this website to. It's important to look, and compare your site to others listed. Your site should have something unique about it, that other listed sites don't have on them. This is especially important if the category you've submitted it to has a lot sites listed.

Also, your website seems unfinished. Perhaps that is why the editor is reluctant to add your site. The pages are very light with text, giving very little information. Your Blog is currently "Under Construction". Your Portfolio shows three thumbnails, and the text "More websites comming soon!" Also, on that page, as well as others you have Testiomonies with only one testimony, and the text "More to be added soon!"

When submitting your site to DMOZ there is a list they provide of what not to add, below is one item from the list. (Be sure to read all of them when you submit)

Do not submit sites "under construction."
I mentioned a few things above, changing them should help.

It's not easy getting listed, but it is possible.

That statement is a paradox of sorts...

Have you applied to be an editor? If so, why, that would mean you want to be lazy, if not, then why not? Too lazy?

ALL of the editors do their mandatory part in building the directory, if they do not, then they are removed. What is mandatory? Well, heh, one edit every three months...
