I have come across a domain that I think would be great to develop into a URL shortening site. The name is easy to remember and marketable. Does anyone know if there any money to be made in this type of site?
Usually these types of sites are used as free services for subscribers or members of membership sites. Usually the way these sites generate income is from people paying for advertisements, or by placing Adsense or Albrite ads on the site. Selling ads can take quite a while, as you need to build a following before people are willing to buy ads. Perhaps you have another angle that might work. If you do, it doesn't hurt to try.
I do have a URL shortening site and the only revenue it does earn is from advertisements that I sell. It is 1+ yr old and PR 4 so that does help, but other than that, I don't think it's worth pursuing.
Yeah i agree, i have a 3 char .com short URL site and i don't even have ads on it because it doesn't earn enough to bother.
Thanks for all the replies guys... That is kind of what I thought. Now I gotta figure out something to do with this cool url. Maybe I could have a contest for an idea hehe.
Tinyurl and Viralurl are examples of url shortening sites viralurl does this in a network-marketing fashion, while selling a gold package so they make $$$ tinyurl makes $$$ from ads you can make $$$ from your url shortening site quite easily Don't expect massive growth until people really start taking to your site url though Maybe if your name is good enough
