Attractive design, yet simple. Medium content. Web 2.0 yes, but not too much. I hate seeing everything being glossy and with reflections on a site. You have to put that in a moderate amount. Also, the amount of popularity and the type of content matters.

I believe a good site is this : DESIGN + CONTENT = SITE. And that is it.

    Some few professional site:

    Tutorial site : www.pixel2life.com
    Blog: http://ma.tt/
Business: Any webhosting company, the more popular ones of course.

I agree with NsaneNoob, but also all of your points, even though some black colored sites can be very professional, I don't really like the darker colors, especially black/red.

IMO professinal sites are those wherein

    1. Content in clearly written.
    2. Navigation to the site is easy.
    3. Contact page is easy to reach
    4. No heavy graphic. (flash can be there, but not too much)

I think there is a more important point everyone is missing here... who is your audience?
A black site might be very appropriate for a rock-n-roll (metal/punk rock) audience. Flash might be the best option for a site promoting animation, creativity or uniqueness. Sites for programmers lean towards blues and grays, and keep graphics minimal. The most important thing is to find out what your audience is looking for, and speak their language content wise and graphically.
    Good luck

haha i was about to say the same thing

    its all about your audience

content is king as far as im concerned and delivering the content to the audience - the success with how you deliver that content is what determines if a website is professional or not

    what is an unprofessional website?

personally i dont thnk there is such a thing

there are good websites or bad websites
most good websites tend to be by "professional" companies

whilst most bad websites are created by beginners in web design.

soo maybe the question should be...

What factors determine a good website?

for me the 2 factors that matter are

how well the website reaches its target audience and is the content right?

    thats it
    nothing more - nothing less

in recent years we have seen new development (ajax techniques taking the main frame for example, css standards , white space)
but although development and technologys changed - the factors will always remain the same
