For "Florida Bass Fishing" I have had the #1 spot for about 3 months. Just thought I'd post in this old thread that really helped me so everyone, especially noobs could see the different points of view on SEO and content.

I really appreciate all the DP'ers help here and hope all of you can learn from my adventure to the #1 spot.

Listen, ask questions and learn. Thanks DP for a great forum! :)

P.S.- Someone bought the "old domain" that we were joking about and added alot of content. It's a completely different site now and deserves a little more PR than it used to have.

    Cruelio,

You do need some time, but not as much as expressed by some of the commenters on this post. Look at SEO with the "Glass is half full" outlook and carefully weigh everyone's point of view. Just keep trying and follow the SEO tips that most of the high ranking DP'ers give here (the guys/girls with lots of green reps). ;)

if your competitors site ranks no.1 with their old contents, then you must consider getting relevant backlinks, high amount of traffic and remember if you aim to have a high position in SERP then consistent hardwork is required.

Ranier, My site is #1 now(see explanation in quotes). I thought I'd post on this thread so everyone could see the trek and different viewpoints that I took to get there.

The age of the website is really an advantage and a combination of advance SEO techniques and a good strategies will lead your site to the highest rank in google. So I suggest to study carefully what the competitors done to their sites and what sites they are linking on.

The advantage of an aged domain is that it likely has many well established backlinks. At least to some degree, the age of these backlinks can provide more weight. Not that someone can't overcome them, but just that it takes a little more effort.

Congrats to pbruessow for achieving your goals!

If 'Content is King' actually applies for a niche which is competitive. As for example, content really will not make much impact if you are the only one in your niche.

With that said, almost all niches are flooded with two things, spams and competitors. Its really a balancing act with Google, so balance your site the best. Only Seo or only content won't really help, you need both and you need them in a fair quality.

Congrats being number uno anyhow :)

Hello Snowbird, Glad to see you again. I just posted this old thread to give some inspiration to the new guys on the block and to show them it's not impossible! Thanks for the Kudos.

    Amertz, Thanks!

Godsofchaos, You are sooooo right on the amount of competition being a key factor in ranking well. I'm trying to work my sites to the next level by going for the next toughest keywords for their niches! Lot's of work left to climb up for those.

Good luck to everyone here on achieving your dreams! Got a little bit of extra income through my sites and hopefully they'll grow even more with the help of the guys/gals here with lots a green like Snowbird and Godsofchaos

Oops, Sorry Amerz, saw the 1st part of your msg and blew by the 2nd. The real key is a huge combination of things. I'd say link building, content, article publishing, social bookmarking.

The biggest jump I saw when climbing the SERPs was building relavent links. The higher PR links didn't do near as much as lower PR relevant links. If you search my posts, you'll see a relavent link building strategy I used by querying competitors or similar site webmasters who ranked much lower than myself and asking for link exchanges via email. I built a specific page for their niche, put their links their and in exchange received some from their homepage or higher ranking pages.

Some articles I published got picked up by some authority sites that also helped quite a bit. So publish some good articles at Ezinearticles and if they are good, some good websites will pick them up. The authority site that picked up two of mine was an outdoor site for lawyers(never knew there was one). Those articles still rank well in Google, even if they are not from my site.

    Hope this helps.;)

Content is not the only factor to be a better serp position. You have also to consider the links on your site. And last, the keyword "Florida Bass Fishing" is associated in their domain, which means that it has also an impact in serp if you put your keyword in your domain.
