US/NATO already said that they dont have plans on sending troops to Georgia .

Otherwise, as the holders of nukes, this phrase of Albert Einstein comes to my mind:

"I do not know how the third World War will be fought, but I can tell you what they will use in the Fourth—rocks!"

Georgia is going to take a beating but afterwards they will be rearmed to NATO standards.

Georgia is still holding on in South Ossetia and fighting continues in the South Ossetia's capital of Tskhinvali. The Georgians are also holding on in Kodori Gorge.

Russia has sent 20,000 troops and 500 tanks into Georgia and have captured the main east-west highway near Gori. Effectively the capture of Gori has cut Georgia in half.

    What allies may that be?

There are few possible allies like Ukraine, Iran, Kazachstan, China... but you can count them on one hand. The only serious "ally" from the list is China, and I'm not so sure they would be so willing to help Russians in a case of major conflict.

But keep in mind that Russia, even though their army size is minimal compared to pre 89 era, and their equipment is debatable, still possess enough nukes to destroy the whole world, possibly several times in a row.

I can name from 3 to 5 countries solid. Lets not plan things like that :)

I wouldnt call Ukraine as not "serious" one. You also forgot Belurussia.

Regarding China, they got a huge border with us, so they will have to choose one side as it wont just be a local conflict.

This might be a little off topic here, but does Russia face Georgia in any of the olympic games? - That might be interesting . . .

yeah... I thought of this too. They can face in judo and wrestling. Only that sport comes to mind.(not being sarcastic). Oh, and boxing maybe.....in other sports there is a little chance for them to face.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure it would make news if they were to face each other in the olympics, so hopefully I will hear about it if it happens. I think that would be interesting to watch.

Mr Saakashvili runs away from the sound of his own air planes:

Notice how no one else was scared))) The bodyguards were shocked and were running to catch him. This is a clown.

Ukraine is on the verge of joing NATO.

China and the US have some issues but the US is their #1 trading partner. Japan is also a US ally -- China doesn't want the US to give the green light to Japan to rearm.

Turkey is the key country in the region but it doesn't look like they will make a move.

half of Ukraine is against NATO, to be exact the east Ukraine (which has a key port in Black Sea - Simferopol). So, it will get some effort to join NATO.

Even then, Russia has the nukes that can reach US and the filelds wont help either (Topol-M missle), so it doesnt matter who joins or not, the result will be negative anyway, not like in Iraq for sure.

One thing that will come of this conflict is increases urgency for the US to build it's anti-missle defense system.

Turkey is trying to keep it balanced as much as possible, first there are over a million Georgians living in Turkey and Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan is a very important pipeline, on the other hand, Russia is among the top 5 trade partners and main gas supplier, so Turkey is trying to lose neither. There is a big flow of refugees in the past few days, also most of the flights are being cancelled.

1 mln? On wiki its only ~ 40K:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Turkey

I can tell you that there are lots of georgians living in Russia too. On wiki it says ~ 200,000 georgians. But thats outdated I believe (2002 year).

By the way, Im half Circassian :) I knew there are lots of Circassians in Turkey.

I think the 40k might be those with Georgian citizenship, those with Georgian ancestry is a lot more, check this
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_people
    Turkey 200,000-1,500,000 (estimated)

Anyways, I said that for "Turkey is the key country in the region but it doesn't look like they will make a move." to emphasize the importance of Georgia to Turkey in the conflict, yesterday lots of them gathered in front of the Russian Embassy to protest etc. But Russia is no less important, for eg. there have visited 6 million Russian tourists this year and them suppling the gas is vital, it's important we be maintaining the good relationship with both parties so unlikely to get involved with this beyond a peace-making role.

Yep there are many circassians and chechens i know, they are good and quite passionate people, like us, so we get along well. :)

There are reports that Russian forces are advancing on Tbilisi and are a couple of hours away. An assualt on Tbilisi will be a serious escalation of the conflict.

Vastly outnumbered by the Kremlin's ground forces and airpower, the Georgian government announced it was pulling back its troops to defend the capital Tbilisi against a feared Russian onslaught.

Tonight the Georgian prime minister Lado Gurgenidze said Russian troops had entered Georgia's Black Sea port of Poti, an oil and cargo shipping centre. "According to our information, Russian troops have entered Poti, as well as being in Senaki and Zugdidi," he said in a televised address, referring to two other towns in western Georgia.

According to Georgian military officials, Russian tanks in Gori could move on Tbilisi swiftly via Georgia's main central highway.
