    better than a dookie

even more sportsman like was Phelps going over after the race. Better than I would have been, I would have been "in your face!!" :p

3/4 of the way through the last leg it looked like France was a lock and USA 2nd but man! What a comeback! That was nuts

It was an awesome race. I think a moderate amount of trash talking is good because it lifts the level of competition. I think I heard that even the 5th place team broke the world record and they were waaay behind U.S. and France.

Yeah, I wonder why everyone was sooo much faster this olympics than last. The first 4 or five teams all would have broken the world record. Pretty crazy IMHO

That was nuts I mean 4 seconds is like the grand canyon in terms of records.

I think overall athletes are just that much better today. Technology, diet, training, and even the damn swim suits...high tech! I don't think I've seen more than a handful of swim races that didn't involve a broken record OR or WR!!

I wonder why more sports are not experiencing this trend? It seems like the finish times in track and field are a lot more consistent and I think it would be pretty much impossible to break a track and field record by 4 seconds+ - I have never seen so many records broke by so much in 1 sport.

I think it has a lot to do with the overall increase of swimming popularity. We are starting to see athletes who grew up in the 90's to 2000's and have competed since they were little, during that time is when swimming really started to reach a wider demographic.

The swimmers are also getting bigger, and stronger. Michael Phelps is let alone 6'4 with a 6'7 arm wingspan. Most of the other swimmers are also quite tall, and have long arms/legs. I bet the average is at least 6'2. There will be a time when records aren't broken as much, but swimming is developing super fast at this point.

I don't know the answer to that one. Faster water :p

I bet Shane's take is part of it @ least, I bet the avg. swimmer from 20 years ago was 8-12" shorter!

And the winning anthem is ...

It took a month to track down every one of the 205 national anthems that might be heard at this year's Olympic games - and Alex Marshall sat through all four and a half hours of them. It's time to reveal the handful that actually do their countries proud

    Bangladesh [2nd Position]
