Do nofollow links count for google SERPS, or do they not count for anything at all?

They're not supposed to have any value. But I recently read something about them still passing value.

No follow links aren't supposed to pass pr...that is, they don't (technically speaking) add any weight. However, SE's are complicated entities, and based on experience and a little common sense I don't think that google will sit back and say that just because a link is "no-follow" that it doesn't count for shit. "No-follow" is just ONE variable in a complex system of how they analyze and rank sites...A link, is still a link, is still a link...it's just not as important a link (unless PEOPLE are following it of course, then all bets are off!) The point is, nobody really knows except the *good people* over at google...but when it comes down to it, I'll take the no-follow link over no link at all!

There are many articles being written on this topic. Most are wrong.

May I suggest that everone goes to Google and look at their "current" position on the use of the "nofollow" attribute: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=96569

SEO Rule: On all outbound links from your site, add the nofollow attribute.

SEO Rule: Any link to your site that has the nofollow attribute in it, is worthless. There are no exceptions.

    Use of Code:

    <a href="http://www.mysite.com/signin.php" rel="nofollow">sign in</a>

Nofollow link on a popular and related site could be a valuable source of traffic. Regarding the effect it has on your position in SERP’s the simple answer would be no however I’m not 100% sure and I guess the only people that would be 100% certain are the Search Engines.

Do we instruct search engine spider to ignore the link which has NOFOLLOW attribute?

The NOFOLLOW attribute IS the instruction.

If a site has a high enough PR I will still build a link because Google DOES track nofollow links - see your Google Webmaster Tool for proof. It may not pass any juice but the search engine WILL follow it and they WILL index your page if the page has a decent PR.
