Yes,you are right.Using this logic Alaska also should go back to Russia.;)
So IMO it is not clever that Russia support South Ossetia.
    Maybe they want World War?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but Alaska was purchased a LONG time ago, the break up of the Soviet Union was extremely recent in comparison...

Your example falls apart on many levels.

#1 Not even close to being recent history.
#2 It was purchased, not a broken away recently held state that is now autonomous.

They are not even close to one another.

I think if the vast majority of Alaska wanted to go back to Russia, AND they hated us, AND we treated them brutally to try to keep them under control, AND Russia was trying to defend them from us, AND wanted them back...

I would say bye bye to Alaska.

Another Russian fan.OK,how do you explain Chechnya?
This logic will hurt Russia itself,as I konw there are some people who live in Russia also want independence, including Chechen, and other races.

To me, this isn't about Russia. My opinion is based mainly on the value of majority rule and a desire to live in peace.

That's why Moscow should not stop until all curent and future threats are eliminated.

Moscow must change the criminal Georgian rulers and put peaceful once.

These guys in the west are beating the drums as loud as the can, but Russia should explain them the truth and continue the operation until the Georgian army surrenders and all major weapons are surrendered to Russia.

Then, new elections in Georgia must be scheduled after about a year from now and in the meantime Russian Chinese and Indian advisors will help restore peace and order in Georgia. The west should not be allowed in since it is biased, dishonest and hostile to Russia.

Moscow has no right to change Georgia leadership as much as Georgia does not have the right to replace Putin.

I think such interferences must stop for the two sides to coexist in harmony.

    About Rebecca:

It only shows that she has big heart, she values
human live more than $$$$. Very glad to see people like her. Wish the US president shared her views.

About Chechnya, Russia let them rule themselves. But after Chechen terrorist blew up a few appartment buildings killing hundreds of civilians in a terrorist act. Russia was forced to restore order in Chechnya.

Get the facts. If you like Chechen terrorists take them in your country.

Petraeus - US Is Flying Georgian Troops To Battle Zone

This battle won't stop so soon. Russian reaction was unexpected. Georgian President must have assumed, at best, a US Security Council resolution, which would be vetoed by the US anyway... Georgia was counting on NATO and the US to come to its aid in case the Russians did react. It was America's strongest ally in the Soviet East-bloc region. But its not that simple.

I'm sure China is tempted to do the same in Taiwan. They know the US is tied down in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they can't do nothing... If it wasn't for the Olympics... :D

Get real people. Whatever one of the big World Powers ( read the ones with nukes ) do no one can do anything about it. The others can only "support" the small ones one way or another. No face to face conflict. It is not time yet :D
Only when crisis will errupt in one of the big world powers like poverty and/or some huge internal problems then we will see the action from the big guys ;)
