Israel has sold advanced mortar guns, machine guns, and even non-manned spy planes. But here is the point. Russia is instigating a fight that should be an internal Georgian problem. Why is Russia making this fight? Georgia has oil lines that dont pass through the middle east. This is very important to the American dollar. It's a trillion dollar business. America made plans with Poland to install a special air defense system in Poland. Russia has even threatened war against Poland and Nato if the system is functionally installed. As a result, Russia is now fucking with American "assets".
Now imagine what US would do if Russia would have planted the same system in lets say Cuba ? Its common sense, now Poland will be under the possible target. Is that so surprising? This is wrong, they never did such a statements. "possible target" and "war" is quite different. Russia will only react back like it happened with Georgia. Blame the aggressors.
NFS, what do you believe Russia is planning? Do they want to just bomb Georgia for revenge, and then leave? Do they plan on removing the government there? At what point will they be satisfied, what do you think the end goal is?

The first goal was to free south ossetian territory from georgian troops as it was for 16 years till now. But currently, it might have changed, and they are destroying all military objects of Georgia. Also, they are planning to prove that Saakashvili should be in international court for genocide of osssetian people and ethnic "cleaning". They prepare all the documents and inviting Strasbourg to make an investigation on attacking peacekeepers. But thats in the future.....I doubt anyone will head to south ossetia now, 2 foreign journalists is already dead and one wounded. Update: 2 journalists are wounded and in hospital now, one american and one turkish.

Why does Georgia so violently attack South Ossetia, and then play the victim card when Russia intervenes? It is sad though to see the innocent loss of life on both sides though.
I see no one is talking about this but it worries me ! I am sure there are members here from small countries like me that are in Nato and are configuring their small armies to Nato standards ( modern, equiped and small army ). What we see here is total devastation of this concept. This concept only works for missions "abroad" and not in defending your own territory and/or efficiently engaging your enemy. Russians were able to completely drive out the Georgians with the same equipment ( or even worse ) and with smaller force ( Gergians say 10 000 Russian soldiers and they had 13 000 ) in 48 hours ! This is the first time we see Nato concept and Russian doctrine of war clash directly and things do no look good for Nato concept that we are pushing in the last 15 years. Let's sum it up : 1. Small and good equiped Georgian army had in any moment of the fight more available soldiers than Russian army. 2. At the beginning of the blitz-krieg they had 15:1 over russian "peacekeepers" 3. Even when Georgian army overran the Ossetian militia they didn't complete their objective taking control of the territory as small as Ossetia. 4. When russians began the offensive with smaller and not so equiped army they totally crashed the Georgians in 48 hours. I am sure the Nato generals now learned something out of this conflict
Maybe I'm wrong but, it sounds like the people of south ossetia like Russia. From the reports I read, it sounds like Russia saved them, and many people in south ossetia want to be part of Russia. If that's what they want, why don't they let them, and just have some peace? Or am I misunderstanding something? Here is something I read...
Yes , they want to be a part of Russia , but think , if everyone wanted to be part of some territory, there would be no territory . Georgia just fighting for their lands and cleans up from Osetian terrorists . Why they should give their territory to Russia ? Russia controles and theaves everything there . Remember chechnya ? No it's the same , Russia as always helps WRONG people .
Using this logic Georgia should go back to Russia as a whole, who ruled Georgia for I believe about 2 centuries?
