Hey guys, I was thinking of making websites for people for a price and I was wondering how you all made your graphics. Did you use photoshop. If so which version. If not, please tell me what you use and how much it costs. I know photoshop costs loads, almost $1000 for the extended CS3 edition but does that enable you to make absolutely anything for your website? Can you make your own templates. If you can, how to you change it into html? Pelase help! Thanks, Magestry
If the graphics are purely for web sites only, you might want to look at adobe fireworks which has a more web specific set of features and is a lot cheaper ( photoshop has a lot of stuff particularly in the extended version which isn't relevant to web, so you might be paying for a lot of features you'll never use)
You don't need the latest photoshop really, not much useful features for webdesign were added to cs3 so I suggest that you just find a cheap cs2 version on ebay. The price for cs2 is usually around $200 bucks, you'll save a lot of money.
At the moment I am using Cs2 and it does everything I need it to do for web development / design. If you are ambitious of design and know where to get good clients then its worth the money. But if you are just making designs for your site alone I would use Gimp or something.
Can you talk me through the steps, like if I bought CS2, how do I use it to make websites. Do I just make each image and then do all the css and html myself? If so, I could probably try and do it but is there another way? I have seen tutorials and they make amazing things but it looks like a web page... how do they do that? Thanks!
Use the slice tool You create HTML tables by creating boxes using your slice tool around your desired graphic elements. Photoshop will then number each area and recognize that as a slice. Go ahead and Save for Web. Click save and at the bottom of the dialog box it will give you options to save HTML and IMAGES... Well,it's quite easy.. A folder will be created call images along with the HTML file. I can't post the link, dunno why, maybe cuz got low posts. I use photoshop CS 3 extended. If u want some of my work check my recent wallpaper. ptcads.net/first.htm I hope you like it. Thanks, MudiW
i suggest you try gimp or gimp_shop first,it wont cost you anything.then practise with that, and when you are comfortable making templates then you can upgrade to photoshop.
Sorry nice post. But mate please read and dont even touch photoshop before you know the basics play. Try http://www.w3schools.com/ Read around this site and do the tests on there website then you will pick up basic things.
Maby I will try gim, I have downloaded it before, but never worked out how to actually make a template, all I found out was how to make some (kind of rubbish) logos lol, I will try again and look at some tutorials! Thanks guys!
I am trying out gimp, made a template from a tutorial but it is .xcf how do I make it .html ?? Please help! Thanks
when you save it you will see options where you save the format there you can choose to save it as a html file
Do you know that some of the most successful websites have little or no graphics at all? Unless your site is artwork related, a gaming website or something that justify the effort, any simple graphics editor or image manipulator can do the job, but avoid those that come bundled with Microsoft products.
I use CS3 Extended. A friend of mine sold it to me when he was hired and transferred to his new job. CS3 works great, though, as above, it does have quite a few features that most designers will never use. If you're looking for something to get the job done, FireWorks is a nice program. I own a copy that dates back to when Macromedia was the label, though I've not yet used Adobes' release. I'd imagine it to be just as good if not better, seeing as Photoshop is a wonderful tool for web design, though it does come at a higher cost. I was simply lucky to come across a cheaper copy without having to pay full retail for it.
